Am I the only person who realizes that there is no such thing as a 'gay marriage' its all in the news about 'banning gay marriages' when it doesn't even exist. I have done research in this field for years, trying to find a way around such things for my father (who united with a man 3 years ago). All I have ever found are 'civil unions' which are legal in Vermont and Connecticut, and trying to get legalized in California. I would really like to think that these people would know better. Get a dictionary, it says marriage is the condition of living as husband and wife. They are called 'civil unions' and they are scarcely legal as it is. Its very frustrating when you do research in an area like this and then it gets falsely publicized. Please post opinions, thank you.

I am a strong supporter of the gay community, although I am not myself.

The compassionate person says: "Who is the government to say who can and can't get married? No one can control who they fall in love with!"

The logical person realizes that one can use that exact argument to justify gay unions, polygamy, incest and a whole host of other non-traditional unions.

I'm NOT comparing gay people to to polygamists or anyone else, but all of those groups use the exact same logic to make their case.

Instead of calling this a "Gay Marriage" amendment, it should be called the "One Woman One Man" amendment.

Limiting the inclusion of the other minority groups into the realm ov civil unions prevents a whole host of unwanted side effects. Just imagine a custody dispute when a polygamist and his wives get divorced, or the incredible burden placed on the health insurance industry when a person can marry their entire extended family to get them on their health plan....

I have agreed for a long time. The civil union thing is NOT a marriage, just by the definition of the word "marriage." I don't understand how so many people can be so ignorant!

Because gay marriages do exist in other parts of the world, and the conservatives are afraid that civil unions are the first step to having them here.

It's just a ploy for Bush to reenergize the ultra conservative right wingers, election year> And also to get Americans to stop thinking about the Illegal immigrant situation, which according to CNN, 62 percent of us do not support Bushs' stance.
I'm not gay either, and my attitude is if it make you feel good, more power to you. Life is too short.

I agree. It's not marriage. I don't really care what else they want to call it, but by definition, it's not marriage.
