18 to buy a shotgun, rifle ( long guns ) 21 to buy pistols
( handguns). what kind of guns does he collect ? WW2 war guns ? black powder ? just all guns ?? you can go to any gun shop ,wal-mart,pawn shop,etc.. and buy guns.
the price depends on what you are looking for. 150-3000 for a good shotgun. 100 to 10,000 for a rifle (.22 to .50 cal). just see whats he is into and set your budget.

You can buy rifles and shotguns at 18 in any state in the union 21 to buy a handgun. Anygood rifle/shotgun/pistol/revolver will cost a week to a week 1/2 pay. Ask him to tell you about his guns and listen to what caliber he rattles off 22/25/32/38/357/ in these calibers you canget both pistol/revolver/rifle Ask him what is his favorite and pay atention to the caliber.Brand names such as Ruger,Smith and Wesson,Colt are good value increasing brands. Winchester,Remington,Marlin are good bands of rifles and shotguns. If a price didn't matter (under $1000 I'd would love Colt anything)

In Florida you have to be 18 to buy a long gun (rifle or shotgun) and 21 to buy a pistol. As far as cost well you have to take a lot of factors into consideration. Are you buying a new gun or a used one? What kind of gun do you want to get?
A good place to look for guns being sold online is:

I hope you find this helpful.

Take him to a gun store and let him pick which he wants, otherwise ask him what he would like. In most states you must be 18 to purchase a rifle or shotgun, 21 years old to purchase a handgun.

You would have to take him with, make it clear you are paying and he is getting the weapon, that it isn't a straw buy because you are just flipping the bill and it's for his birthday.
Second thing you could do is buy a gift certificut for the gun store tell him what you wanted to do, but thanks to the unconstitutional federal gun laws you knew you didn't want to try a straw purchase.
As far as the age, it depends on the state.
A good cheap gun is going to run about $500 unless you buy used. (A new Bennelli shotgun is about $300 well worth the money)

first, it depends on the type of gun you're gonna buy. if its a handgun, you generally need to be 21. if its a rifle or shotgun, 18. if you want more specific info, go to ur states website and ask them.
