Please help us, my husband has had serious constipation, even bleeding from the bowel when he passes stools. He can tolerate a whole lot of pain and so rarley goes to the doctor or takes drugs. When he does, we know it has to be serious. Last week he came out of the bathroom, and went back in with a wooden broom, he came out with blood all over it, crying, and asking for a doctor. The next day we went to the doctor, and the stupid asshole "pardon the pun", just told my hubby to drink more water and come back in a month. He drinks plenty of water, almost 3 liters a day. Even I dont drink that and I dont get constipated. The doctors just refuse to send him to hospital or even give him any laxitave for short term releif. My hubby is not the kind to take medication long term anyway, perfering to get to the sorce of the problem. Please give serious answers only, my hubby is in a lot of pain and we need answers quickly to get him some releif.

He explained that even the pain of using the stick was far less than the pain he feels before, during and after passing stools. Cancer runs in his mothers and fathers sides of the family, most of his uncles, aunts, grand fathers and mothers, even his own father all died of cancer, some of them from bowel canser. We need not explain how worried he is as he is only 31 years old and has been suffering with this problem even with extream bleeding, since the age of 17. It has just become much worse in recent months. He now bleeds to the point of feeling weak each time he passes stools. And it is becomming harder and harder for him to begin passing. Hense all the worry. We have explained all this to our stupid doctor, and he just told him to drink more water. My hubby is in the process of changing doctors, but that can take weeks over here and he needs help in the mean time. Thank you kindly for your suggestions. My husband would never have written this himself.

clean the pipes with exlax, it may take several doses - an enema may be required to get things moving first though - sounds like there's a blockage that needs washed away before things can be pushed along.
then take fiber pills every single day - but with tons of water or else it will make things worse. no cheese or bananas or any other food that may cause constipation (Look up on WebMD)
go to a different doctor. if it doesn't clear up very soon, go to the ER - you don't need a doctor to send you to the hospital.

First of all, he should be taking colace or some other effective stool softener. He can take two or threes times the recommended dosage with no problem. When he feels the urge to go, he should lubricate the passageway by inserting the applicator of a tube of Preparation H and squirting some up there. It sounds like he is getting anemic from blood loss, so he should be taking iron. More than anything, he needs to find a good doctor.

There is alto of over the counter laxatives which all work well, Senokot, Lactulose, Docusate Sodium. Probably a stool softener would be the best intial choice and if used with a bowel stimulant you should be successful. Of course drinking prune juice or raisen bran are great natural remedies. Try them all and see what is worse. Even if you have to resort to a suppository like Glycerin or Dulcolax, then there is the fleet enemas which flushes the bowels with liquid. GoodLuck

Constipation can be fixed with a diet high in fibre, lots of water, and/or laxatives. Constipation does not normally cause bleeding bowels. He needs to seek medical attention immediately. There must be some sort of blockage or rupture that is causing this. He'll probably need a colonoscopy to find out what's wrong. Aren't there any walk-in clinics around? His doctor is an idiot.

Black stool or any blood seeping in with stool is not something to be taken lightly, it can often times be a sign of internal bleeding. I dont' mean to scare you with that at all, it's probably unlikely and is more along the lines of a blockage, but I find it hard to believe that the doctor would be so dismissive. That is a text-book sympton to get things checked out ASAP!
So my suggestion is to get a second opinion as quickly as possible and if he is in pain, go to the ER.

This could be very serious!! He needs to see a gastroenterologist!! I had some of these same symptoms and they did a colonoscopy the very next day. I recommend he has one done. If he is in pain and having bloody stools I would go to the ER and demand something be done!!!

Your husband need to go to the ER....especially if he's having these problems daily...the longer it goes on the worst it could get to treat....he shouldnt use anything to physically try and remove stool...he could do alot more damage than already is.....if his bleeding has been bad enough he may need a transfusion to bring his levels back to normal....this could be a serious condition and he needs treatment promptly.....you dont need your docs permission to go to the ER..and there they will run some tests and probably call in a gastroenterologist or refer you to one...good luck

Start by taking 2 over-the-counter stool softeners per day.
Then get your hands on a bar of chocolate ex-lax. Have him eat twelve pieces of it.
It is NOT gentle, and it hurts like you wouldn't believe. But, it works.
Have him keep taking the stool softeners every day for a week.
It worked for me.
