"And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that [was] in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle." Exodus 12:29-30

the bible said that god knows everything, so he knows that the Pharaoh will choose not to release the slaves, so, he knows he will kill all that children, this god choose to kill the children instead the Pharaoh, there is no excuse for this, plus if this god is all powerful he had hundreds of choices, (HUNDREDS) … but he choose to kill the babes.

Yes, that's a terrible thing. And people say, "well, if the pharaoh had just let everybody go..." When a murder is on trial you don't say, "confess to murder or I'll kill some random person's children!" and then go and do it! So many of those people had nothing to do with the Jews and what not. Why did they deserve to die? A just god? please, give me a break.

If God is almighty and omniscient, he must have known what would happen when he created everything. Omnisicence, or the ability to know everything, includes the ability to know the future, after all. So, He knew at Genesis that he'd end up killing some kids because the Egyptians would end up enslaving the Jews, but He made it this way anyway. Since he was the Creator, he created all the troubles that he'd have to deal with; no mere mortal Pharaoh could possibly be able to force God's hand.
So, given our assumption about an omnipotent, omniscient God, this world turned out exactly as he planned. He knew that billions of children would starve to death, and he was okay with that. He knew that disease, war, climate change, pollution, etc. would plague us, and he intended it all to. He knew we'd kill each other to prove who was most godly, and He must have liked the thought because He gave us this pride and belief through the various prophets. All this is anathema to my humanity. I cannot worship such an evil being, therefore I cannot believe in this God.
One might say that this is the best way the world could have turned out, that all our suffering is for a good end, or at least for a better end. After all, a utopia without trials would be morally stagnant. If we were immortal, we'd have no need to improve ourselves and take care of each other, etc. Still, I can't help but think there are better ways to get us to act like good people, whatver that means, than to threaten us with death at every turn. Maybe using positive reinforcement instead? Or are humans simply more ingenious than God? Is God really so shortsighted? I cannot worship my inferior, so I cannot believe in this God either.
Unfortunately for religions that believe in benevolent gods, I see no other solution here.

I might be completely wrong here but this is the first thing that came to my mind.
the Pharaoh had killed all the firstborn around the time moses was born and after the Pharaoh did not let His people go( after several plagues) the Lord killed all the Egyptians firstborn
I recall the Lord saying in the bible "vengeance is mine" and "tooth for a tooth and eye for an eye"
I don't know but it seems logic at the first thought
I know that after this question I will get some more understanding for myself by speaking to my leaders.

Why wouldn't God have the right? He gave them several chances to change the outcome.Have you ever thought of how many of the slaves would have died working for the Pharaoh? Our God is merciful and just.We should never question anything He does.
Good point eyesloves.

I think this is a good question and deserves an answer. I can't give one. But I do have a reply, albeit not a happy one. According to the records, many thousands of people have died by His hand. God is an individual. He put a plan into operation based on His own motives, with His own specific objectives, expecting certain results. I am not qualified to explain Him or defend Him. He is not limited to parameters of our logic, nor must He conform to our sense of fairness. Clearly, He does not consider our present circumstances to be a significant test of the success of His plan, especially since He let us loose here with free will...including freedom to hurt each other. The vast majority of people who ever lived on this planet are now dead. Within a relatively few short years, everyone living now will also be dead. We are but a speck in time, a flash in the pan. What He is concerned with is eternity, and enjoying fellowship with those who chose Him. Whether or not we approve of His methods or not isn't really significant. He does not need us to believe in Him in order to exist, nor does He solicit our approval how He conducts His business. So I can't answer your question, although I still think it's a good question.

I'm sure that if some other god did such atrocities to children they would call him the devil. Such things however were written by certain not-so-holy men who used it for political purposes. I'm amazed just how many people are intellectually dishonest and will try to justify evil only because it happens to be in their holy book.

of course it is a criminal offense. there are a number of that are falsely accused by jealous girlfriends and different halves or daughters that decide for to get far off from residing house to do their very own component. attorneys that are any good decide for a minimum of $10,000 up front. If someone would not have the money to look after themselves they plead no contest. Are you gonna be waiting to variety them out? particular there are truly very undesirable ones available yet how are you able to tell the version. seem how many have been imprisoned purely to be certain later by DNA that they've been harmless..Mmm.

Hello luiskarlos.. :)
"God gave the Pharaoh the chance", to avoid this happening..but his pride got in the way..
Why does the WORLD, justify the killing of innocent babies still in their mothers womb.."they are not even given a chance" at life..
In Jesus Most Precious Name..
With Love..In Christ..

Its called free-will. Yes God could have intervened and saved those lives, but it was Pharaoh's choice to kill those innocent babies, not God. He gave us all free-will. Its up to you to make the right use of that free-will.

No person killed the children. This was God's doing. As sure as the Lord gives He takes away. God holds the power to be ruthless if you disobey Him.

At the end of the day, this was Pharaoh's fault -- not God's. If he had let the Israelites go, none of this "smiting" would have ever happened.
