I work with the elderly. We got a new director of nursing who moved all of the staff who works with our alzheimers patients to another unit. She put people with no Alzheimers experience over there. She doesn't understand why the patients are "acting up" I try to tell her and she gets upset saying I don't go with the flow and I'm not a team player. What the heck?

You could talk to the patient's family and without being a tattletale or a rat, ask how their parent is doing. Suggest that their loved one may be a little upset lately. Their voice will override your complaint. Try not to get caught doing this, you could stir up trouble and then nothing would get accomplished. After all aren't you there for the welfare and care of the elderly?

It is unfortunate that some people can't bear to hear someone else's point of view or knowledge. You can try to approach her again or wait for an opportunity to say, calmly and directly, the staff on this floor have no Alzheimer's experience. Let her say whatever she wants, her problem is she doesn't want to admit she possibly made an error since she is a director. If the unit becomes difficult to the point where the patients aren't getting the proper care you could consider speaking to someone who can get through to her about your concerns.

You have to take it to a higher level and let them know that you are expressing concern due to the patients' reactions and comments, and you have to be able to support your theory in a very positive way. Do not in any way say anything negative about the new Manager (this will look better on you and it will come across that the patients are your number one concern in this whole matter). Once the upper management realize the care of their patients has been put into the hands of unexperienced staff, they will be quick to act and thank you for it in the end. Good luck!

start calling the families of the patience. they have the RIGHT to know what's going on in the facility their loved ones are in.
start getting all these people involved. when the new director get inundated with complaints from family, she will be FORCED to do something different.
my family got a call from the hospital my gramma was in. of course, we didn't receive it because we were THERE. if the family members come on a regular basis (daily) , they will know what's going on with their loved ones. this makes the employees stay 'on the ball'. (that includes the director)

Speak to her supervisor, and get someone at that level who knows Alzheimer's patients. Get science and authority on your side.

I work at a nursing home and understand what you are saying,you can try to go over her head but from what I have seen,it probably wont help,good luck!!

If you have already brought this issue to her attention and she has not done anything about it, then it is usually ok to go over her head with the complaint. Check with your HR dept regarding chain-of-command. If you make your complaint known in the right way, you can be more effective in making changes.

Can you possibly speak to her supervisor, or even the head of HR at the hospital? That's completely unacceptable, and someone's going to end up getting hurt.

Standare operating procedure (SOP). She has been promoted above her level to perform. Her superior should see that she is in over her head and remove her. I doubt it will happen. Politics and friendships control these situations in NOT well run businesses. LOL

hell yeah it is this happened to me too shes prolly only giving u a reason and get pissed off and either leave or act up so she can fire u so just stay calm and shell be fired sometime soon
