Depends who you'd rather shoot: foreigners or the locals.

National Guard is part of the Army just supposedly on a part time basis, but as a mp you would probably be deployed alot, but you get the same training as active duty army soldiers, if you want to be a policeman look at the requirements first, there might be age limitations for the city you want to work in. So if you go Active Army you will be probably 31 or 32 when you get out if you do a min of 3 years. Talk to the police force you want to work for before you go talk to a Army recruiter.

Man there's some rough answers in there. Joining is a good decision. If you go MP you probably will get deployed & need to be prepared for that. It's not necessary to be an MP to give you a bump in becoming a cop, not even necessary to be in the military, but as you said you need some straightening out. Check reserve units around you. Real easy to go active duty if you decide at training that's right for you.

Being an MP would be a good way to get into the civilian world but who is to say that you will be guaranteed a job. My hubby is an MP for the Army but is making more money now than a civilian cop. Your best bet would be to go to college and then go into law enforcement as a detective, more interesting and better pay. Or if you do get to become and MP, continue with college and become and officer in the MP corps.

I'm not insenuating anything, but if you have a police record within the last seven years, you can't be an MP. If you do chose that route, the MP branch will prepare you well for being a police officer. You will also be in better shape than half the recruits at the police academy.

I think it sounds like a good idea. I would prefer the Army over the National Guard. Army has more benifits. My hub wanted to be a cop once. He is a correctional officer. He decided not to because he would actually be taking a pay cutt. He regrets ever leaving the military (Marines.) You may end up liking the Army, you never know. It would open up your options to help you be a cop, or you may chose to stay in. Best Wishes.

Do you believe in the fight? Are you willing to become a better person by killing another ? Are you willing to die to become a better person? Are you joining the military as an act of desperation? Don't do it, stay alive, don't kill, get a few courses under your belt related to law enforcement....good luck...and peace !!!

YOu wana be a cop? I would think that 3 years active duty would help. BUt on the other side, just being in the gaurd helps, actually go gaurd. One of my Battle Buddy's (you will learn that term) was in the gaurd, now a year later he is going active... YOu can go gaurd to active, but I doubt you can go active to gaurd... Unless you join the Louisiana Gaurd, because they dont like getting rid of their soldiers... Enjoy One unit station training.....

Please tell me why you would do that to your family in a time of war. You have a good job with hope for advancement. Do you really need to put your family through you going off to war and not coming back in order to "straighten you out?" If you want to join by all means do so, I was just wondering.
