Brain damage isn't exactly easy to catch because there are areas of the brain we still don't know much about. We don't know what they "look like" normally and so we have a hard time seeing what's abnormal.

Did they run an MRI? If so, it's possible they were either negligent or the damage hadn't shown up.

A relative had epilepsy for about 11 months. It developed when he was 20 and fled him shortly thereafter. No one knows why - the brain scans (they hooked up electrodes to his skull and had his patterns tracked for 72 hours) came back normal. There are just some things we don't know yet.

You may want to have him examined by both a physician and a psychiatrist - the delayed reactions may be physical or psychological in nature (based on attention and preponderance), while the mood swings and headaches can be fully psychological in nature, or based on structural damage.

Sounds more like PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Have it checked out.

was it emergency room docs?

The standard of care is different. ER docs just make sure the guy is stable. If there are other problems, then he needs to check with the appropriate doc.

Sounds like a closed head injury.

He needs to see some kind of neurologist.

It does like a problem alright. May be he should go to the doc and get on some prozac . I've read it helps wiht mood swings.
