How close to the stage are you going to be? If your in the far back you will need a zoom, but it owuld not be worth buying because of the quality of image loss you will suffer from low light and high magnification. If your in the first 10 rows, 50mm will be perfect. That is what I used when I was snapping shots of concerts.

Check out the Canon 70-200mm f/4 ($550) or the 70-200 f/2.8 ($1700). Or go with a set of primes.
50mm f/1.4 (expensive) or 50mm f/1.8 (cheap)
85 mm f/1.2 (hella expensive) or 85mm f/1.8 ($340)
135mm f/2 (hella expensive) of 135mm f/2.8 (dunno)
All of these Canon lenses are fantastic for low light photography.
You could also just crank the ISO up to 1600 or 3200 and use a cheap zoom.

if you can get close, check out the 50mm 1.8. It works great in low light and is really cheap.
