She has been fed on Purina puppy chow ever since we got her off the breeder but suddenly she refuses to eat it. We want to avoid feeding her canned puppy food so would appreciate suggestions on good healthy alternatives.

Guess I should mention that she is in good physical condition & doesnt have any problems with her teeth, We clean them on a daily basis & they are good strong healthy teeth. She has just come into heat for the first time & am not sure if this would or could be affecting her eating habits.

Kibble is the best choice. It helps clean teeth and has the nutrients that dogs need. However Puppy Chow is not a great kibble. The first ingredient is corn, which they poop out. More food out requires more food in.
You can get a beter kibble like Iams or one of the natural brands at the pet supply stores. Then you can add things to the kibble. Plain yogurt, cottage cheese, rice, meat, veggies. Anything that you eat that is healthy.
Canned is ok to add to the kibble too, but a bad idea to feed that all the time.

A pup that "suddenly" refuses to eat may be sick, overweight or have a problem with its throat or its teeth coming in wrong that is causing pain. Have the vet check her out.
I've never known a healthy dog to starve itself to death. As puppy growth slows down, so does their appetite.
If you start letting her force you to make her better offers in the food department, you'll spoil her and you may be cooking for her for the rest of her life. Dry food is best, because it helps keep the teeth clean of tartar. I like a good quality dry food like Nutro that has no by products and is "nutritionally complete".
Other than canned food and dry food, you really don't have any good choices. Whatever you do, don't use those semi-moist fake hamburger products - they are horrible - filled with preservatives and sugar.
There are some companies selling frozen, raw food for dogs - personally, I wouldn't use it.

Going into heat can affect a female dogs eating habbits. Try mixing her kibble with hot water to make it more tempting. If after she has passed her heat and she is still not eating contact your vet. My Female almost stops eating while in the first stages of her heat. If the dog starts to lose weight then you may need to consider taking immediate action.

↑ Emerson ↑ is right and NUTRO is great i use it and would reccomend it 100%
Stay away from IAMS and generic store brands
one of my dogs is very picky and the other has a very sensitive stomach and NUTRO is the only food I could find that worked for both of them

soak her food in warm water before feeding it to her. let it get mushy and that releases all the aroma in the food so that not only is the scent more appealing to her but the food is softer. dont drown the food in the warm water just fill above the food and let it sit for approx 10 mins or so. hope this helps

my dogs can't get enough of beneful. the vet recommended it after we found out they have major health issues and i didn't want to spend extra $$ on their usual science diet.
i think beneful now has a puppy food line.
