Read it yourself, often, and pray about it. The truth will be revealed to you as you get to know God's word better. You should take the Bible literally for the most part. Use your common sense. There are parts that are merely symbolic. When Jesus uses parables to illustrate a point, he tells us that's what he's doing. I think if you study it yourself you will find that God speaks to us through the Bible and that many of the controversial parts are not as complicated as they seem.

First thing you have to consider is that Bible was written by men. Men are imperfect. Next, It was written a long time ago, and therefore, it was translated to several different languages by other imperfect men. Therefore, it has lost a lot of it's original meaning.

You should think of it as a guide of how to keep going with your life. Something that will make yourself feel better, instead of thinking that is a book of rules, that if you do not follow, you will fall in eternal flames and suffer eternally.

Most of the things said there are probably true, but as any text, they can also be ambiguous. That is why I can say there are more religions than happy children. Be careful with what you chose to believe, because not everything should be taken literally.

Every word of the Bible is not literal.
Revelation starts out sayng it is symbolic.
Most of it is literal.
It is a matter of making a study of it.
Isaiah was written about 700 years B.C, yet he referred to the CIRCLE of the earth (chapter 40, verse 22).
It was in 1492 A.D. that Christopher Columbus prove the earth round.
Why did Isaiah say what he said?
That's a small example showing how one can come to a greater respect for the Bible.
Did you know the bible was the first to say the earth hangs on nothing?
How did those guys know that way back when?
Ah.....someone in the know, told them.

I'm a religious person, so keeping that in mind... A great deal of the bible was written by man. MAN. You know, people. The ones who invented the game "telephone". All I'm saying is it's a good idea to take everything with a grain of salt. I believe in the word, the concepts, the ideas, the events. But I can't live my life strictly word for word. If we all did, all men would have beards they never shaved and no one would have tattoos. Food for thought...

NO, the Bible is written using many parables which are not to be taken literally. It can be hard to understand on your own, so sometimes its a good idea to join a group like a Bible study or youth group. As far as believing it's truth...that is where faith comes in. The more you study the Bible, the easier that part will become. Best of luck to you.

well if you get past all the contradictions, it is alligorical mostly and the codes and perfection that is talked about is actually found using kabbalah which is as it turns out Hebrew witchcraft. so maybe the reason they are so against you knowing tarot (a big part of kabbalah) and any witchcraft is because afraid you learning real truths. i enjoy some of the stories and i am constantly pouring over the first 5 books by moses and the ten commandments because he was a powerful wizard and i am sure that somehow he coded his ten books and the key to opening the book is hidden in the commandments but you have to understand hebrew and kabbalah and yes i think i have found credible sources to the other 5 missing books. well take care.

Hello. How are you? I am an active member of Jehovah's Witnesses and once asked myself the same questions. You can know if the Bible is true only by researching. A book that really helped me was titled "The Bible, The Word of Man Or The Word of God." You can request this book from any Jehovah's Witness, or you can visit their website at www.watchtower.org and request a free Bible study. A Bible study will really help you gain knowledge of the Bible. ------"This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ." John 17:3

Well I'm a christian and I ask myself that question. Heres my answer: you don't. Just think of the bible as an advice book and an answer book. If you have problems then you look at the bible. Also think of it as a history book and a story book. That's my advice. Now if you asked my parents they'd be shocked and strt ranting and giving me a lecture of "The Bible is God's word and no matter what you must think of it that way! You must believe in it to be able to go to heaven and blablabla".
( Hope that helps)

Since the bible is no longer in the origanal form and most of it was used as metaphores because being a christion in those days was a crime and they had to hide their beliefes I wouldnt take it litral.
