I heard that a cat can get pregnant while she is already pregnant. In other words...I heard that while a cat is pregnant, she can be bred with a male, and have kittens at different times. I have never heard of this before, but while I was at the vet today, I heard someone saying that is possible. Serious answers only, PLEASE.

the reason I am asking is because about a month ago, my female Persian (who was already pregnant) was accepting my male. They were actually "breeding" while she was already pregnant. I just thought that when she had her babies Sunday night, that she would have more than 2. She was awful big. SO, her big belly has gine down significantly, but I am wondering if there are other babies growing in there.

she acted as though she was in heat a month ago when I caught her with my male. She did the whole screaming act when it was over and all that. I thought that she had lost here babies, and that is why she was accepting my male, but 2 came along Sunday night.

It is not possible. In order for a cat to get pregnant, she has to be in heat. When a cat is pregnant, it doesn't go into heat. The only possible way that a cat can conceive in two different times is if she is in with a male for the week that she is in heat (this is what happens in planned breedings) and she conceives on two of the days in the week during one heat.

I really do not think this is possible. A dog or a cat will deliver all babies at the same time. If she is bred a week or 2 after she is bred the first time, some of the kittens may be premature and may die.

I have never heard of that...although when my cat had her kittens there were 2 different male cats that got her pregnant. 5 were short hair and dark and 1 was long hair and orange.

It's true - i watched a cat special on PBS - they say it's to ensure the strongest genetics.
Also - it only happens while she is in heat - that's why they are all born at the same time - she can breed with more that one male in that time period

I don't know if that's possible - and I doubt it do to the birthing process. However, I do know that cats can be impregnanted by multiple sires, so the babies can have different fathers altho they're born at the same time.
