Who would have thought cell phone ettiquiette would ever become such an issue?

Occasionally I receive a cell phone call at home when I am cooking dinner or in the car with my mom, and I can understand if her cell phone happened to ring and she answered it. But what I can't understand is why she would choose to call someone on her cell phone while I'm on my cell phone trying to hear them when she is right next to me. I think it is rude. She could wait for a few minutes for me to finish my call, or if we are at home, she could talk in a different room. I will often go to a different room to make a call, but sometimes I am in the middle of doing something important and she comes and talks right next to me.

She is normally a very polite and considerate person but I don't think she ever thought about this being rude. Do you think its rude? How can I let her know that I think this is rude without hurting her feelings?

Yes, I think you're 100% right. It is a little on the rude side. It's your mom though, don't say anything, she loves you. Just have some patience and be happy she's still alive.

Yeah, that's kind of bad form. Why don't you tell her that you're on a call and it's hard to hear who you're speaking to? Or, if that fails, do it to her, and when she says something simply say . . . 'I learned it from you, Mom!'

Yes, it is thoughtless and rude. Firmly and gently just tell her how you feel...short, sweet and to the point.
