Last summer I visit Thailand and tried mangosteen fruit for the first time. I absolutely found it to be one of the best food items I ever tasted. In Thailand you can get bag fulls for pennies, but in the U.S. I can not find one store which sells the fruit. Could someone let me know if it is sold in the U.S. and if so where? I live in the Philadelphia area.

I can't tell you for sure if they are sold in America or not. The best place to look is Chinatown, either Philadelphia or New York City. If they are available that's where they'll be found. I know they are exported from Thailand to Hong Kong and Japan but don't know for sure if they send them to the 'States. They are seasonal and are now (mid June) a little past their best. Ask about them at Asian grocery stores in your area, they are the folks most likely to know.
