I understand what it means but why?
I know someone who whenever we are going somewhere or have to meet someone invariably says “Good. We’re in good shape” I had never heard anyone say that before. Is it common? Who uses it? Where? Oh, just in case it matters .. .English is only my 3rd language ...
Thanks!

Thank you all for your answers and to Barbara in case you did not notice I did write that I understood the meaning; my question was more about the origin if there is one and where it is commonly used.

Yeah it's common for people to say "We're in good shape."
Here's my definitions of it. (Not the physical meaning)
1.Being in a good mental condition.
2.Having everything going well for you at the moment.
Who uses it? I would say a lot of people do. Where? Well I'd have to say in America because I haven't been anywhere else.

This is pretty common in the Midwest-it means just what common sense tells you it would mean-that circumstances are good for whatever undertaking you are involved in. Apparently speaking multiple languages doesn't lead to recognizing the obvious.

Yes many people use the phrase. It is another way of saying "we have everything to take and meet them so let's go".

And it could mean Purely Venus.
