If you build a big giant wall, do you really think the terrorists and drug runners are going to see it and say, oh, gee, that's too tall, guess I will go home now? Anyone who thinks more fences and more guards will put a dent into illegal immigration has been misled, and anyone who really believes this will keep out criminals who should not be part of our society is just plain wrong.
America needs to reform the immigration process so that people who want to come here can do so legally. The "bad guys" are not going to come here following the law no matter what the law is so we need to find a way to let the honest folks come here legally. The fees need to be set so that an immigrant can afford them, and the process needs to take less than the 6-11 years it does these days. Most immigrants WANT to become legal but it costs over 3 times the annual average salary in some countries (Dominican Republic, Haiti, China) and it takes so long that they'd starve or worse in their homelands.
Once we can properly manage immigration, the various law enforcement agencies can then spend their time looking for the bad guys, instead of chasing after people who only want to come here because they need a job.

I know what you mean and would've agreed at one point, but now I think; never mind a wall, patrols, or new legislation. The old laws worked fine. There's just nobody enforcing them. Any other country would do the same to anyone migrating there illegitimately without hesitation. Too, there is considerable advantage to be gained in the status quo by individuals on both sides of the border in all sectors. That live people are caught in the middle of varying sorts either by electing to do so or forced to it doesn't seem to be a concern.

I think that it will take us a very long time to ever realize this. Some of us will never agree that what you say is true or necessary.

Shhhh. That was supposed to be a secret! Geez, you just blew it. Well, maybe the GOP can win votes by a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. Oh wait...

The first answer is ...hmmmmmmm...I'll be nice. We are not trying to keep people from coming to this country. We're trying to keep people from ILLEGALLY coming into this country. I-L-L-E-G-A-L...nobody is against immigration. Get over it.
