Volvos were engineered with safety in mind since the 1950s, even as far back as the 122s they had seat belts standard when other manufacturers had them only as an option, or not at all!
Up through the late 90s the cars were built to withstand a hilly, rocky, tough environment that is frequently below freezing. Durability goes a long way in those environments. When Ford bought out Volvo, the took the square, safe, low level luxury vehicles that they had become and has turned Volvo into Ford's most profitable luxury line as well as a base for testing out new safety features on vehicles.
My 88 Volvo 240 lasted 240k, AND being stolen and ran into a ditch and rolled. It started right up after it was recovered in the tow yard, and could be lot driven. It was a battletank.

It's easy. First of all the engine is a tried an true in-line 5. It has been around for a while so a lot of the glitches have been worked out. Second the car is built as everyone has said around safety first. If the car is safe then it must be reliable. You can be speeding down the road and your car just cuts off or you go sliding across out of control. That would be unsafe. Your also talking about a car that is put together wisely. Each part is assembled to a high level of Quality. This means things tend to last longer. So if with all this in mind building a car to a high level of safety first will produce a reliable car naturally.

They were only made for safety and long lasting maybe that's why they might not be super fast but Mercedes is the longest lasting car ever it lasts longer than the Volvo the BMW lasts just as long as a Volvo unless you race these cars they won't last long.

Volvo's are made by the English till the Germans brought the company from us in the 1950's the Germans toke our design for them self's and made it better in a way that you'll have to spend more dollar on the car to mend it

maybey years ago the engineering department had real world working mechanics mixed in with the colledge boys and they got together and decided that a car being a big ticket item should only have to be purchased once [buy the best you can afford and then take good care of it and it will last a lifetime] so they sold solid cars at areasonable price and they did last a lifetime. the front wheel cars are still very good but idont think that the owners will still want to be in them for more than 20 years.

Volvo is a Swedish car made in Sweden. I think they might be using Yamaha engines on some if not all of their models currently.

american companies havent produced a long-lasting vehicle since the gas crunches and emissions bullshit of the 70s. need proof? have a look at my pickup. 34 years and still going strong. most new pickups are lucky to make it to 4. volvo, thankfully, never did stop doing this. well, atleast in their 4-wheeled offerings. their big trucks, however, are a differant story

They have been some of the world's safest cars for many years. And their longevity on the road is their testament.

They have good build quality. They are Swedish so they have to survive the cold so are built robustly.
