I took 20 minute practice ASVAB at my recruiters office. It predicted I would get a 94 on my ASVAB. Should I be satisfied with that? The practice only tested Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Mathematics Knowledge. I'm good at those subjects, and I should do well on the General Science, but I feel like I'm going to be screwed Electronics Information, Auto & Shop, Mechanical Comprehension, Assembling Objects. I'm good at science you see, but I don't have any background with mechanics. Should I be concerned about this? Will those subjects bring down my overall score? Is there any way I can prepare for those sections? Can I retake the test? Finally, is the test graded against the performace of other people (like the SAT) or is it based against an absolute standard (like a driving test). I know that's a lot of questions but I'm kind of confused right now.

Dude you did excellent

The ASVAB contains nine sections:

General Science (GS)
Arithmetic Reasoning (AR)
Word Knowledge (WK)
Paragraph Comprehension (PC)
Mathematics Knowledge (MK)
Electronics Information (EI)
Auto & Shop (AS)
Mechanical Comprehension (MC)
Assembling Objects (AO)

No, you should not be satisfied. The ASVAB test is like SAT; whereas, it determines what job you are capable of being trained in. For example,if you scored a 110 I believe, I'm not a recruiter and you were not color blind and possess 20/20 vision you could become a helicopter pilot.

Do not allow the recruiter to convince you that the score you received cannot be improved, remember he gets rated by how many people he can recruit; especially, in the fields where they need men. You guessed it! He will do his best to talk you into infantry, tanker, or truck driver.

Your Military career is up to you you can peel potatoes in the mess hall as a cook or you can tell that recruiter to hold off while you complete a full review of High School and land that job flying million dollar aircraft. They might act like there your best friend, that's there job!

By the way I scored 110 had good vision, but spent twenty three years in the Infantry; because, that is what I wanted, no one else.

don't listen to that Kevin guy. he doesn't know what hes talking about if the test predicted that you would get a 94 that's incredible. with your science, mechanic stuff that's a whole different score that's called a GT score it basically everything that you listed you were worried about. if you get a GT score of 110 or higher you can have a pick at any job that you want. but if you're really worried about your ASVAB you can got to the library and get a ASVAB study book. so yes you should be proud of a 94 just try to get your GT score as high as you can.

Yea that's a good score I think, but when/if you take the real one and get a score like that, many (if not all) of the military branches will be contacting you. I took it just for the heck of it, and got like an 87, and two branches have already contacted me. LOL the first answerer got it right on though I must say!

Yes, get the book & keep practicing. Don't stress over it, the 94 is great! but, those practice tests aren't always the best either. You should do fine & have your pick of almost nay job you want. Good advice in other answers.
