I'm in pharmacy school @ Ohio State and just LEFT! I didn't even bother to go to school to drop out, I just stopped attending. I have probably the most stunning 4 year old son on the planet (green eyes, dark skin, curly hair, smart, just perfect), and I have no idea where this has come from. I guess I'm depressed but I'm not sure because I've never felt this way before. I never thought I'd have to turn to medicine for help but I think I might have too because I don't even want to try to feel better. What medications are good. Anyone know anything about St. John's Wart? Do I even need medicine. Please help.

What I meant to say about my boy is I can't enjoy him because I just feel like a big failure for leaving school but with a full time job, him and full time school I just couldn't handle it any more. All I do is work, go home, go to school and care for him. I used to be content with this but now I'm not. I just turned 26.

Your first sentence describes depression to a tee. Depression in any form whether it be clinical depression; or major depression can make you feel this way. I strongly suggest you go see your family doctor and explain to him or her just how you've been feeling. Don't rely so much on certain herbs or other things as of yet. Seek medical advice first ask your doctor what medications or other treatments you could have to help you feel better.

Do some investigating of your own too. Try to track down the source or sources of your depression and why it happened in the first place. By acknowledging this and telling your doctor could guide him or her into the right paths to help you more effectively.

Medications alone may not help you. Your doctor may suggest you go for some counseling as well. Try this out. It may do you some good and it may help you and your precious little boy to bond even deeper with each other. Good luck and you have my best wishes. You can move mountains if you want to.

Go see a doctor. I spent about a year being very depressed and gaining a ton of weight. I also drank a lot and smoked pot. I thought that things were just the way they should be and I deserved to be unhappy. I finally told my doctor, and she put me in touch with a good psychiatrist and a psychologist. I have always been against medication for depression, but I have learned that it does help, and now 7 months later, I have never felt more satisfied with my life. I don't think my personality has changed at all, and I am not hyper or anything like that. I still have my down days, but now they don't go on forever. Please get some help, if not for you, for your son. There are many medications out there, it may take some trials to see which one works for you, but your doctor should be able to help.

I really feel for you. I've had experience with St.Johns Wort and it can be good for very mild depression or anxiety. See a Doctor, that's the best advice you can get. The only thing that has kept me from doing anything stupid so far, is my five year old son. I just couldn't let him grow up knowing his daddy left him in that way...(I saw two different doctors before they realised and considered me Depressed.) I too, have never experienced anything like this before in my life. What was worse, was that I have always been, mentally, a very strong person with an incredibly optimistic outlook on life and everything else....it sure caught ME off guard...

Best of luck.

ok,first thing is to get the book BATTLEFIELD OF THE MIND) By Joyce Meyer,it's on the internet, read it ,it's the best way to get through right now what you're going through, i realize it's hard to read when you're depressed but this will get you a start on how and why you are feel ing like you do.Next ,the weight don't elaborate on it , just cut down your food portions and do light exercise and you'll see some slow but progress on loosing weight, pray for God to show you how to eat and manage your daily routine, i had a difficult time with depression and this helped me a lot ,give it a try.St. John's Wort is no good it only masks the symptoms, sit down and evaluate what the problem is and then tackle it one at a time. You have a beautiful son so do it for him and yourself.E-mail me if i can help you anymore.

it sounds like you are suffering from a pretty major depression.

st. john's wort has been show (in some european study) to be effective in some people with mild to moderate depression.
i never felt any difference from taking it.

mainstream medications that _did_ help me were wellbutrin (very helpful) combined with celexa then later switched to lexapro. after a few years i tapered off and i haven't needed anything for almost 3 years.

another new "treatment" is inositol (sp?). which you can get from health food stores. google it. not sure if its effective for more than a mild depression.

once you have suffered one major depression, your odds for having another one are significantly increased. that is the bad new. the good news is that you realize you are depressed and are ready to do something about it.

good luck, hope you feel better soon!

Sorry to hear that you are depressed. I barely made it through school, it took all my will power and my parents down my back to keep me their. I got counseling which helped alot and I was on zoloft which i absolutly love. nothing is wrong with being on meds, it really helped me function becuase i couldnt get through the day! st johns work must work becuase my mum has been using it for years and i notice the change. if anything your son should be a motivator for you. he needs you now, how can you care and support for him if you dont finish school? you dont wanna have to depend on your parents and he needs a good rolemodel. mommy went to grad school, so will i. i would seek counseling, right now i dont have much money so i just go to my pastor because they are trained to counsel us and a spiritual approach seems to work better for me anyeays- im off the meds now! good luck and if you ever need to chat, email me :)
