Because we are more than just our bodies. One day our bodies will die and decompose - but part of us lives on. The part that contains our will and our experiences. This part will live on for eternity. So physical traits are temporary but personality traits and character flaws will continue forever.

Haven't ever met someone who just looks like they're always pissed off or there's something shoved up you know where? But you talk to them and find out that they're really nice and kind.
It's not because of god. Society would just crumble if everything were based on looks.
