I would like to plant some Poppies outside but I know they are poisonous if ingested. Will pets eat them? I have 2 cats and many others around and do not want any harm to come to any of them.

Poppies are not extremely poisonous. Many common garden plants are much more poisonous ---daffodils,ivy, lilly of the valley, tomatoes , rhubarb..... Cats are much more discriminating than dogs .I've grown poppies for many years, along with my pet cats and never had a problem. Growing catnip is a good idea. If you have catnip, your cats won't go after other plants. Annual corn poppies are one my favorite flowers and they are easy to grow.

if your sure poppies are poisonous and love your cats, why take a chance. plant something more cat friendly. Catnip maybe.
