Most of the time its pretty easy to pick a best answer but this time it's really difficult. Almost each and every answer is a best answer.
I really liked the traditional compass idea and I will bring it with me on this trip thanks to you :)
.... The sturdy bag and rope is a wonderful idea!
The chocolate for a 5 mile hike is a fantastic idea as well as the peanut butter sandwich idea.
The lighter and waterproof matches advice is simply indispensable.
The Cell phone and bear repellant answer is good advice as well.
My point is that they are all great answers and I cant pick just one of them, so I am putting this question up to a vote.
Thank-you for all of your great answers!

You should probably bring snacks and maybe an extra set of clothes for like, 4 days instead of 3. Hope one of those helps. BTW, if you bring things to eat, it would be wise to put them in a sturdy bag and use some rope to put it in a tree so if any bears come, they won't be able to smell it.

Make sure you can call for help if you need it. Cell phone or walkie-talkie. Also don't forget to fill your canteen with water, that's really easy to do.
