No. Please do not hit him. He has to be taught. When he is chewing on something...take it away...say no...and then put a chew toy in his mouth. It will take months to get your pet house trained. Will take a lot of patience. You must have a regular schedule of when you take him out to use the bathroom. When indoors...watch him closely...if he starts sniffing around a lot... put him outside. Your dog is not trying to get you angry...his wish is to make you happy...that is what he lives for.... Be patient. A dog is a big responsibility. In time your hard work will pay off. Good luck.

If you feel the need to hit your dog, you are frustrated and just don't know what else to do. Did your math teacher hit you when you got an answer wrong on a test? Does your boss hit you when you screw up at work?
Train your dog - teach him what you WANT him to do. Confine him to a crate when you can't supervise him. Keep him on a leash and tie it to your belt, so he can't start sniffing around to pee or chewing things up without you knowing about it! Show him where to do his business and what toys are his to play with. If you don't get control now, try hitting him when he's three years old and weighs 120 pounds - you may lose an arm.
I'd also suggest reading some really good books on training. Try not to do it randomly - there are a lot of bad books out there also! These are some of my favorites and you can get them on Amazon.com

The more you hit the nastier the dog will become, if it goes for you one day whose fault will it be, yours or the dogs? If it's a puppy then he's only playing (shoe laces and so on) as for pi*sing on the carpet I have that problem with my dog too, you can't hit him for doing what comes naturally.
Is the dog bored, is he left alone for long periods, how many walks does he have? A Rottie need at least 2 good walks a day and to be let out into the garden a lot.
I know it's hard not to lose your temper, but remember that he's just a baby and doesn't understand; you would slap a toddler for wetting their nappy would you?
No hitting, please; it never seems to stop at one smack - you want your dog to love you not fear you.
Ask yourself one thing 'If I was out in the park and saw someone hitting a puppy what would I do?'

no if you hit him you can make him mean. you should scold him with a load no when he does something wrong. i was told to make house breaking easier to crate the dog at all times unless you can be there to supervise also as soon as you take him out of the crate take him outside if he doesn't potty put him back in the crate and try again later. for shoes i found that hot sauce works pretty good. also you can't correct after the fact because they simply don't remember so they will have no clue why they are in trouble. Good Luck

No you should not hit your dog. You need to take your puppy out several times a day and make sure that you teach it to urinate outdoors. You also need to make sure he has toys to chew on and that you monitor his behavior to ensure he doesn't chew on your shoes. A puppy is a baby dog. You would not hit a baby...so don't his a puppy. You need a book or website on training dogs and then you need to stick with it. Dogs dont' learn from being hit...they only become afraid.

Say no. Never hit an animal. this will cause them to become aggressive. A dog will also have no idea what doing to them unless the punishment is given in 10 seconds and the only good punishment is a stern no. try to train the dog and NEVER hit him. He will become aggressive and will not like you. Never hit the dog. He will bite you.

no, there are other ways you can make him realize he did wrong Just yell at him, and show him what he did wrong, then put him outside, or in the bathroom. he will soon understand that it is not allowed. My daughter's akita starts to whine and head for the back door as soon as he realizes he did something he shouldn't have and they have never hit him.

NO! Do not ever hit your pet! This teaches it nothing. When it does something wrong say no sternly, if its chewing on something take that away say no and give it something it can chew on.

If you want to make your dog mean, go ahead and hit him. If you want him to tremble and shake when he sees a hand being raised, go ahead and hit him. If you want a good, loyal, loving companion, teach him and love him but DO NOT HIT him or HARM HIM in any way. If you do, he should hit you back!
