If you believe in God and so did your parents or other adults, this does not count. My point is that most Christians were TOLD that god exists from the very beginning of their childhood.

How many of you "found God" as an adult?

well even though my parents took me to church every sunday and sunday school and all that, i still found God on my own. When I was 16 I became Pagan and was actively doing that for a few years until one day i got very sick, I had a rare form of strep throat where 1 in 3 people die and i remeber my family praying over me for a week while i was in and out of consciousness until i came out of it and recovered almost immediatly! That next day I was lying in bed and a warm glow surrounded me and I heard God say that He never left my side even though I left Him. I went to church the next sunday and told my pastor and He said "The Lord is my shepard, what more do we need? We are all sheep in his flock and if he has 100 sheep and 1 strays away, He will leave the 99 to bring that 1 back because He never loses one." and after that I knew that He really was my Lord and Savior :)

I wouldn't say I found him. I'd say he found me. I was exposed to religion, but found myself pulling away from organized religion. I don't want to get into it, but I have seen men use the "authority" of being a preacher to do selfish things. In fact, I have been to churches that are nothing short of a cult. If I had never met the devil I wouldn't be so sure of a God. I could percieve God though, even as a child. It was strange, but God was with me because he felt sorry for me. I found it quite a different thing to come to know Jesus. People claim that they are one in the same and such as that... well, o.k. I wouldn't argue. Yet, coming to know Jesus is Like having the sweetest friend. He doesn't approach me as an authority figure. God, on the other hand, is very authoritative and can even be a disciplinarian. Jesus isn't that way at all. I think I even felt the entity of Mary, his mother. Only once. It was feminine. It was like a hug from your mother. Except kinder and more gentle if you can believe that. I'm not trying to convince you of anything though buddy. It's not my business or purpose. God let me know, long ago, that I would never be his envoy to others. I was just lucky that he would have anything to do with me at all. It's like I said though... until you have met the Devil, you will question the existance of God. You can look at who I used to work for and ask yourself if you think I don't know the Devil. He's clever, a master of disguises, and incredibly convincing. It isn't that what the Devil displays is all lies. It's not. He can show you how to feel nothing for others. Once you cross such a line, it's hard to find it again. There are terrible truths about human beings. My point is this though... there are many ridiculous jokes out there passing themselves off as people with religion. It is my opinion that Jerry Fallwell and Pat Robertson are among them. Whether or not they have a relationship with God is not my business. I don't care if they do or not. The thing is... they point the finger... they'd never accept or really love me... this is what I know and percieve about them. This is why I don't believe a lot of the BS about religion. I call some of it cultish. I don't believe in organized religion. Like "Travis Bickle" I too have become "God's lonely man." It's from Taxi Driver. I spent the first half of my life turning the other cheek... guess how I intend to spend the second half...

My parents were staunch atheists. From my earliest childhood I was told that there was no life after death and that all my friends were stupid and weak for believing stuff like that. I was really depressed and invented my own religion. I made up that the sun must be a god and all that sort of thing. I think that pushing ANYTHING down a kid's throat is bad- Christianity, Atheism, etc. No matter what the kid's going to have to figure it out on his own. I was a little freaked out for a while, practiced Catholicism for about 7 years, realized how miserable I was and decided that my imaginary childhood religion made the most sense. Now I'm sort of pagan. If you're atheist and the girl who posted before me gave up paganism to be Christian, that's cool too. A lot of people feel loved and inspired by their faiths- I just wish they could be comfortable with their own love and not feel a need to prostheletize.

I love my boyfriend, but I don't demand that you date him to make your life more full. There are plenty of gods, there are plenty of guys...

can't we all just get along?

I did.
I was not born a Christian.
I was a pagan before I became a Christian, and searched for God for a long time before I found peace and Joy in Jesus Christ.
I used to question why people believed in Jesus, and I thought the bible was just an insignificant book that was written a long time ago. I would debate with Christians, and I thought that they were the ones who were 'lost'.
I now see that the Bible is still important, and was written for everybody.
Once I opened my heart to the message, everything changed in my life.

I did. I was not brought up in a religious household. Religion was never shoved down my throat. When I took a job as a paramedic, I went through what I can only describe as a "spiritual awakening" because I saw how precious life was and how easily it could slip away. I needed something to believe in to restore my faith in every aspect. I chose God and Im very thankful for that. I know that prayer changes things. Just my personal experience.

I was brought up with a lenient father who was married to my very strict mother and no siblings (so I was told.) When I was 6 years old, I began to make friends who told me they had sisters and brothers with different mothers or different fathers. I went home to ask my parents if I had any and they told me no. After a few more times of hearing no I was sad. I went off to myself were no one was around me and I heard a man softly say "maybe you do," but NO ONE WAS THERE. The next time this happened the soft voice said "keep asking them and don't stop until they tell you," so I did it. After a 6-8yr old kid buggs two 40ish year old people out of their minds, they had no choice but to tell me that IT WAS TRUE, I have a big sister. It meant the world to me that I was no longer alone. This is why I believe in God. I wasn't raised in church, heck, I didn't even know Him. I was 'just a kid' and He took time out of His busy schedule for me. After that, how could I not serve Him.

Do you ask these same questions to Buddhists, Islam, Hindu, Rock worshipers?? What is your deal against Christians. Did you know that Paul was a persecutor of Christians before he wrote most of the New Testament? I look forward to seeing you on Christian Television proclaiming your love for Christ for all to see! God bless you!

i was raised athiest.

but i always had a desire to know God. i considored all the religions, buddhism, judiasm, islam, all the new age stuff that most americans believe in.

i came to God praying because someone i loved had cancer. i had a lot of emotional times with this person and every time it got me praying more and more. then finaly i just picked up a contemporary version of the new testament and ...thats about it.

i drove a box truck around this time and i started listening to christian radio (WCRF 103.3 in Cleveland).

my parents never pushed me towards God at all. I wish they would have though.

I lost god as an adult. I was sitting in church and it ocurred to me that if the hypocrit in the pulpit had any idea of what I did in my private life, he'd probably have me lynched. Started me thinking.

I was first a Christian when I was nine or so, but I didn't get that close to God until I really found him when I was twenty.
