I breastfed my daughter until she was a year old - and she had a mouth FULL of teeth. It just depends on how much pain you can take. The good news is that they only bite you for a short time and then they get bored with it - as long as you don't let them see you react (scream) when they bite. Personally, I would have breastfed her until 2 years old if I could have. She just lost interest (she started walking and realized there were TONS of things to explore). I would continue at least until the child either reached 2 years old or lost interest or you were no longer comfortable doing it. Good luck!

I think it's a very personal thing. I personally find it a bit strange if the child can ask for it. At that point they may just be too old. I wonder if there is any psychological detriment to breastfeeding for a long period of time.

It's all your choice. I breastfed for 6months and would have done it longer but work interfered. I've heard of mothers with children 7 years old and still breastfeeding. If anything ask your pediatrician what they think.

I breast fed my daughter for the last time on her first birthday. It was a rite of passage for us both. She was used to a bottle because I would pump for the sitter. I'm a teacher so I could spend more time with her during the summer and holidays. My son I breast fed for 4 months. He was just a different child. I don't think you should give them the breast after they are one. They definitely should not be able to ask for it!

extended breastfeeding is great for your baby!! it still provides immunity boosting antibodies and proper nutrition.
to all these people who tell you when a baby is to old to be at the breast, consider this, if it is still OK for a child to use a sippy cup with the valve that forces them to suck it is still OK to breastfeed it is exactly the same thing

I think it's a good thing. Mine is 2 and we still nurse for nap and bed time. We are one of the few countries where it is abnormal to breastfeed through toddlerhood. Most others don't think another thing of it to do it until about 5.

Nothing is wrong with it if that's what you want too do. I didn't take the bottle away from mine until they were OLD.............:)
I like to baby a child while I have the chance instead of forcing them to grow up so fast. Childhood is short. Enjoy your babies while you can.

Well, if they can ask for it I think they are too old. That is just my personal opinion.
