My son just turned 3, and he still occasionally takes his naps. Best way to handle the nap thing is to take you're cues for the child...if they take it, but aren't sleepy at bedtime, maybe it's time to elimate it. Or if they skip it, and are sleepy and cranky before bed time, then they still need it.

I have 4 children and they all stopped about 6 or 7. But my 7 year old still likes to chill out in the afternoon which leads to a nap.

Between 2 & 2.5 yrs for both kids. It got to the point that they wouldn't go to sleep until 11pm or later if they napped in the afternoon so we'd cut out the nap, have an early dinner, and put them to bed around 7pm instead.

My daughter's 2 1/2 and take a 2-3 hour nap every afternoon. She's a really happy kid, but on the days she doesn't get a nap she's so miserable. :(

One one hand I enjoy the break I get, but it will be nice when we don't have to stop having fun or running errands to go home for naptime.

My niece and nephew take naps according to when they are ready. My nephew is 3, and he usually will just go and get in the bed or lay on the couch and go straight to sleep. Usually after he eats and or has played all of his energy out, he goes straight to sleep. My niece is one and she on the other hand, it's hard to get her to go to sleep. She usually sleeps through the night and is the first thing up in the morning. So her naps vary from mid afternoon to late afternoon. Some people put their children on schedules to take naps, so that they can get up on time or get in the bed on time, but I think that the best time to stop taking naps would be after five years old. After kindegarden, kids should not have to take naps, their energy levels pretty much decrease as they get older.

My daughter is 3, almost 4, and still takes a nap in the afternoon for at least an hour and a half. If she will continue to take one, I will let her until she goes to kindergarten. I'm big on healthy sleep habits!

My son is two years old and he only has a sleep probably about once a fortnight or if he is sick. He has been doing this for a few months now, i find he doesn't want a sleep until really late in the afternoon and if i allow him to have a sleep the he will be up until after midnight so he has an early tea, bath etc and is usually in bed by 6pm. It prevents us from going out to dinner and things like that but he is happy with the routine we have. He usually sleeps 12 to 13 hours at night.

my daughter stopped napping at age 3.. I would try with all my might lol, but she just wouldnt, so instead of trying to get her to nap, id have her spend at least 30 mins playing quietly in her room (Because she was the type who always had to drag toys thru the house and play wherever I was).my son on the otherhand napped until he was close to 5.
