When I was 16 money was an issue, so I will assume it might be in your case. Go to club manufactures websites. (I have some of them on my blog roll along with several articles about club fitting.) Hit as many clubs that you can as much as you can. Have the company reps fit you. I think it's best to go through the fitting process a couple of times before you buy. When you find what works best for you buy it or find something that you can afford with that style. Remember hit them first they may look a like but that dose not mean you will hit them the same.

If you're serious about becoming the best golfer you can be, equipment matters--and can matter a great deal. If you're going to play for fun, weekends here and there, then cost of new clubs is probably an issue. You can't buy a game.

If you're serious about improving--and by that I mean you'll work on the game, practice, learn a short game, learn course management, and so on--then you should be fit for clubs.

The only caveat I have for fitting is whether your swing is stable and decent or not. It doesn't make much sense to me to fit a golfer for a new set if their swing is in transition. You may find, for instance, that as you improve, your swing will generate significantly more power; clubs that were appropriate for your swing at time A are no longer adequate at time B.

A good thing to consider is used clubs. You can purchase good used sets on Ebay--or at a local source like Play it Again Sports--and not break the bank. This is especially a good idea if you think your swing might change.

But having a knowledgeable person help you select a club set is the best route. A local pro--or if you know a low handicapper--will be able to get you started.

But my advice is that unless your game is already well advanced--such that your handicap is less than 15, say--it's too soon to spend a lot of money on fitting, and on matched clubs.

I am also 16 and I recently bought a set of Adams Idea Irons with the hybrid 3 and 4 irons. They are easy to hit and i have noticed a big improvement in my game. they aren't really expensive either.

You should go to a local proshop see what kind of shaft you need. ( Reg flex, or Stiff). Im 15 and I recently got the Nike SlingShot OSS. Its great out of the rough and feels solid and still goes straight if you didn't make good contact. I suggest you see what your swing speed is and ajust the clubs the way you want them.

Go to your local golf course's pro shop, and talk to the pro there. He/she will give you honest advice and tell you what you should need. Don't go to Wally World and buy a cheap set of clubs; you won't be helping yourself and might hurt your game. Go to a pro, get ther advice, and consider some lessons. You won't regret it. Good Luck.
