You need to have a stool sample checked by your vet, as well as any actual worms that you have seen. Then, they can tell you what kind of parasites that your dog has. The best way is to get a dewormer from your vet. Usually this is a pill or a powder, unless your dog is very little. Occasionally, there can be parasites in the stool that are not killed by the routine dewormers, and different medications may be needed.
It is important to deworm your dog, as several of the parasites that they can get can be contagious to people. Do not try to deworm the dog at home, because most of the over-the-counter dewormers don't work as well.
The deworming should be repeated in 2-3 weeks, and then every 2-3 weeks until the stool sample is negative.

It all depends on what type of worms there aresome over the counter dewormers at your local pet stores that do work. If you aren't sure I would take it to the vet. Good Luck .
