Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I'm no culinary expert.

Is Baking Soda the same as Baking Powder or Bicarbonate of Soda?

I can only find Baking Soda and Bicarbonate of Soda here in the UK so I just thought I better check because I'm trying to follow a recipe that uses Baking Soda.

Thanks for your help.

Baking powder and baking soda are definitely not the same thing. However, what baking soda is: pure sodium bicarbonate. So, I'm not sure if bicarbonate of soda is the same thing... I've never heard of it. But, it sure sounds promising!
You CAN use baking powder as a substitute for soda, but not the other way around. If you use powder instead of soda, you'll need more and it may affect the taste of whatever you're cooking.
If you need baking powder and only have baking soda, try this: Mix (2) parts cream of tartar with (1) part baking soda. Same thing. THEN, you can use this.

Baking soda is the same thing as bicarbonate of soda, also known as sodium hydrogen carbonate or sodium bicarbonate. None of these things is the same thing as baking powder. You can make baking powder from baking soda by adding cream of tartar to baking soda.
