Not only that, but hasn't he been resting ever since?

If you read the bible, he created the universe in a week. Then the six-day creation begins:
* First day: Light is created. ("Let there be light.") This light is not the sun or stars, as these are created later. It is described by some as a primordial light. The light is divided from the darkness, and called good by God. The statement in verse 8 that there was evening and there was morning is often cited as the reason that the Jewish day starts at sunset.
* Second day: The firmament of Heaven is created. The waters above it is separated from the waters below.
* Third day: Land is created, separated from the waters, and named. The water is also named. Grass, herbs and fruit-bearing trees are created.
* Fourth day: Lights are made in the firmament of Heaven, to appear regularly, aiding time-keeping. Two particularly large lights are made, the lesser one the Moon and the greater one the Sun.
* Fifth day: Air and sea creatures are created, including "great sea-monsters". They are commanded to be fruitful and multiply.
* Sixth day: Land animals are created, and God calls them good. Man and woman are created in God's image. They are told to "be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it." Humans and animals are given plants to eat. The totality of creation is described by God as "very good".
After a week like that, its no wonder that he spent the seventh day sitting on his LazyBoy, drinking a few cold ones and watching the football. We men have been spending Sundays like this ever since in his honour. I doubt the Biblical account of creation but the seventh day is the one bit that rings true.

He didn't rest because He was tired...He did this an a type in shadow; an example, to show us that we must do the same. One in seven to rest- keep it Holy; a Sabbath Day, in rememberance of Him.
This is later explained, after Genesis.
Much in the Bible, whether it is God, Jesus, or a person or event, is done as an exapmle, or representation to show us what to do, how to, and why...

He didn't have to - He chose to.
BTW - in Genesis, God didn't create ONLY the earth in 6 days - He created the entire universe in 6 days. And still wasn't tired - just wanted to take a break for His own reasons.

God did not have to rest. He just set an example for us, for He said, " 6 days shall man labor, and on the 7th day, is a day of rest". By setting the example for us, we are without excuse when we use the day that he has set aside for our own pleasures, rather than honoring Him.

UHHUM.Perhaps you haven't noticed trillions of stars. The moon, and the rest of the solar system.Do everyone a favor and create some planets out of nothing.I know of no one else who thinks making planets are easy (even the greatest mind of the earth). He rested because He wanted to,He could and He doesn't need to explain the reason.

He didn't HAVE to rest. He rested because He was finished with Creation. I would not call The God of the universe weak.

I agree God meant to set an example to us to rest on the seventh day.
Also, after making mankind--he probably wanted to reconsider letting the apes have the planet.

He didn't have to. Remember, God is immortal and a spirit, so rest isn't required of them. He said rest for the readers sake, so we can understand what was going on.
It is similar to God being referred to as a man. God is sexless, and doesn't require sex or genitals. The bible refers to God as a "man" or "he" so we can better understand his qualities.
He is called "Almighty", so being weak is not in his vocab.

Because he figured we couldn't handle having politics for days straight. Well, also, if the day you rested was in the middle of the week, it would still be 7 days.
