Usually, if you buy your spaghetti in a box there is a circle on the back that shows you the size of a portion. I think it's about 1/2" in diameter. So, grab your spaghetti and put it in your fist and look at how bit a circle it forms... should be about 1/2". And, um... 15 strands wouldn't feed an infant, I don't think...

The serving size is a guide to help the consumer determine the caloric and nutritional contents of whatever the food item is. Portion size is not always the serving size. For example. One serving of a popular cracker is 5 crackers. How many people stop at 5 crackers ? A portion may be 10.

I just measured out 2.0 oz (the recommended serving size on the box) of standard Barilla Spaghetti (Spaghetti n.5). It was 74 strands. They weigh exactly 2.0 oz on my digital kitchen scale.
So, 74 spaghetti noodles is a single serving.

Take some out of the packet and lay it on the plate you intend to serve it on, bare in mind that it will expand marginally and some of the pasta is hanging over the plate. Does it look like a lot of pasta for the dish you are cooking? If not add more. Count!

If you look at the end of a bundle of spaghetti for 1 serving it should be the size of a U.S. quarter

i'm not sure of the strands, but 1/2 cup pasta is equal to a serving of grain on the food pyramid- but who only eats 1/2 cup of pasta?
