People say that the DaVinci Code is a slander to the Bible and to Christianity. Why do they do this when the bible is based on zero fact?
I mean, all of it is speculation. Once you understand what the bible really is you'll know what I'm talking about. People spend too much time worrying about what happens when they die, and how a supernatural being can help them with their problems while they are still alive.
That's the problem with society: Noone lives in the now. They are all too preoccupied with what death holds for them to put their fellow man into consideration. If God were all knowing he would have been able to see the selfishness, greed and violence toward others that this book brings. If everything were the way Christians are so sure they are, he never would have told the people to write this book.

I mean, what is the difference between a bunch of guys reading the bible and living by it and some kid reading the DaVinci Code and living by it? What if it came first? What if there was no bible? What if you were born in a country where our version of the bible is followed by a minority, and you were raised to believe in Buddha or another God? Everyone can't be right, and I'm sure the Buddhists believe in their god just as strongly as you do in yours.
Don't get me wrong in this. I believe in a God. I just don't understand why the following of a bible is so important.

You might say that the bible has historical facts. So do other books. Several other FICTIONAL BOOKS have real locations and have to deal with real historical events.

I don't understand, Fedora. Are you saying I speak the truth, or that the Bible is the truth?

According to the Bible, Jesus didn't have a brother and if he did it's a step brother. Who cares? I imagine that Jesus was a real person, but it's absolutely ridiculous for someone to think he could walk on water. He was a regular person.
About the walking on water thing, why the hell didn't they kill him for witchcraft or something?

Yeah yeah. You're a lunatic. If God created this world just to see a bunch of insignificant mortals worship him then I'd have to say he's pretty insecure.

Okay, so the prophecies came true. The prophecies in the Bible are so general, so vague, that it was practically fail proof for them to come true. The way that they word them allows them to be translated into meaning almost anything.
So you're telling me they could tell the future, but they couldn't see the past as well? The story of Adam and Eve is absolutely without a doubt a fallacy. If Adam and Eve were created only a week after the world was, where do the dinosaurs come in? There was life before human beings, that is a FACT. Walk into any museum and you'll see it anywhere. So I guess that means that Adam and Eve must have been monkeys, which I don't even think were around at the time of the dinosaurs anyways.
And even if you find a way around that, explain to me how blacks, caucasions and asians with awkward eyes came around when Adam and Eve were supposed to be black. How did people even end up on the island of Japan? You can't without giving some sort of credit to evolution.

Okay, so you're saying that the bible is true just because it's still around and everyone still believes in it. I do believe there are historical records of Catholics basically forcing Christianity as a religion. I also know that Christianity has several strong ties to sun worship, firstly because of the DaVinci Code (Even though I mention this book a lot, I don't want anyone thinking it is the reason that I don't believe the bible... It's not) and then because of my own research. It all had something to do with Catholics and the Crusades and all of that, which led to Catholics portraying Jesus as a freak show that could perform miracles, that way everyone liked him.
I'm getting a lot of feedback, but noone has any SOLID, UNDISPUTABLE FACTS.
I guess noone really knows the truth. All they can do is believe until they die, and maybe then they'll know (or maybe they will just rot in a casket; I don't know either).

Good freakin question!! People have been taught for so long to believe so that is what they believe. The majority of people I know don't believe anything about the bible any more than they believe a regualr novel. It all depends on the person. Some people need to believe in something to be happy so rock on.

Many others have been duped in reading other books & calling them the tenets of their religion. That doesn't make them right. The teachings of the Bible, staring with the Old Testament, have held up under the scrutiny of time and action for more than 3000 years. No other book has had such a profound effect on its readership - not even the Q'uran. And I am unsure what you refer to as speculation. The Bible? It is supported historically by secular writing and factual research. It has been supported factually by excavation. And it is supported factually by the lives of every believer who attempts to follow it's guidelines above all else. For those who just read it like a piece of literature, it won't have much help. Neither will a Trigonometry book, nor would a textbook on parsing sentences. Yet all have rich value if studied.
And as far as living in the now, Jesus taught that in Matt. chapter six. Indeed, He taught us that living one day at a time is the only true way to live. And to single out Christians as the only felons on this planet is not only untrue, it's arrogant. ALL humans are born with the idea that they are the center of the universe. Christians who follow the Word know that we aren't - Jesus is.

If people are not living in the now than they are missing the point of worshiping God, God should not be worshiped in order to get something in return, it is out of love that I do it. Not because I want anything, and it helps me everyday in the here and now, by helping to treat people right, justly and with love. I would like to say I would do that all on my own, but i am not so sure I would. As far as the books are concerned, get real it is just a book, inspired by God yeah, sure just like everything else, but it is still written by man. Perhaps people put so much stock in it because people like you keep lifting it up to be such a big thing. If the nonbelievers would not keep asking what about this in the bible and that in the bible, would it have gotten to b as big as it is? The catholic church did not make it that big on their own, the same way divinci code would not be as big if people did not get irate about it. It again is just a book and christians and others alike made such a big deal about it that of course it became a big seller. (It is an excellent book, all of Dan Brown's books are!!!)

The Bible is one of relatively few religious books that claims to be true and has a decent amount of historical evidence/reason to the truth of much of it. I was surprised by the number of historical details that scholars (many secular) (e.g., the Jesus Seminar for just one group) concluded to probably have happened. (Looks like this has been covered before here. Refs below.)
But certainly it ultimately comes down to faith.
We all make decisions based on the evidence and our experiences... I have good reasons and good faith that Jesus is legit, and many reasons to know Dan Brown is a fiction writer... What is your faith in? (and are you willing to bet eternity on it?)

Indeed, it's speculation.
The book I follow is The Little Red Riding Hood. It makes more sense. I've seen more talking wolves than open-minded things coming out of the mouths of bible thumpers.
There is no fact, it's a legend to explain things to people when science couldn't.

I agree with you, people should spend more of the life living their life, instead of worrying about what is or isn't going to happen after it. If I was crazy enough to live my life based on a book, I definately wouldn't pick one that's boring, hard to read, and full of contradictions (the Bible).

Easy--Prophecies that came true. 90% of Prophecies have come true even though written years before (fact) the rest are future. Thats a perfect record-no other book has that so far.
