i'm not yelling at anybody;i do it myself. the question is: why is the Catholic Church a nearly irresistable target to people?

Being the oldest Christian religion it is there for people to attack. It happened to Jesus too.

Perhaps it's because the Catholic Church has so many recorded historical flaws that they aren't willing to face up to? They're not willing to admit, "Yes, we did this so that we could gain conversions. It was wrong," or "Yes, we taught this and it has been proven by documents from our own religion that it was wrong." They aren't willing to 'fess up to their mistakes.

Also, some of their stances on things need a bit of updating. Birth control, for instance. I mean, really, the rest of the world accepted condoms half a century ago. The world is already getting to be over-populated. We don't really need any more kids than a replacement rate right now, unless we can figure out how to support more people on an over-burdened-already planet.

Don't get me wrong; I have Catholic friends. I just can't help taking a few shots at the Catholic Church every once in a while when they truly do deserve it.

For a few reasons I guess...

One, there wouldnt have been such a protestant movement if there was nothing to protest. The Catholic Church hid scripture from laymen for centuries so they could say and so whatever they wanted and get away with it. Once The Bible was made public and people could see for themselves what The Word said, they decided to get out.

Second, the fact there are dozens of beliefs, practices and traditions that are non biblical and in some cases against the Bible

and last but not least the trouble with so many perverted priests.

I was raised Catholic and went to an all boys Catholic school and no, I was not fondled by priests. My decision to come out of Catholicism came after I read the Bible myself and saw how far off they are from it.

The catholic church makes itself a target. Its teaching and "dogma" are archaic and out of date. I am willing to bet that most of the catholic women that attend and are of child bearing years, do use birth control (a big no no in the church). They are locked in the 18th century right now and will not open their eyes to what is really happening around them. The Catholic church is also the richest in the world, yet the priests take a vow of chastity and poverty. However Vatican city is the richest self sustaining place in the world. They are the smallest but have the biggest wallets. Their priests have poven to be unfaithful to their calling with all the accusations of child molestation and such. Once they bring themselves up to the 21st century most of the ridicule will cease. If you want proof of wasted money by the catholic church, google The Cathedral of the Angels here in Ca. Read about the altar that Mahoney just had to have in the church.

Because the Catholic Church opposes so many things that are near and dear to the secularists among us -- abortion, homosexuality, casual sex, euthanasia, birth control, and so on.

In particular, this oversexed culture has a special beef with celibacy as practiced by priests and nuns. They just can't accept the fact that some people would forego marriage and sex for Something Higher. So much for diversity and tolerance.

Also, many fundamentalist and evangelical Protestants "pick on" the Catholic Church. They often accuse us of "believing things that are not in the Bible," without bothering to research how our teachings square with the Bible.

Anti-Catholicism has a long and dubious history in the US. While American Catholics today have it much better than Catholics did 100 to 150 years ago, some things just take a long time to fully recover from.

A century or so ago, discrimination against Catholics was just as bad, in many ways, as discrimination against "people of color." Today, we still have racial problems -- so it's natural that some anti-Catholicism would still linger as well.

Not catholics in particular, I'd say. Christians are targetted, and for good reason. It's the contradictions, close-mindness, lack of tolerance and common sense and all the hypocritical facettes of this religion that make people target christianity. Not all are like this, however. Some are alright.

I'm an atheist, so I pick on everyone once in a while, but I try to stay lucid, tolerant and open-minded.

Because the catholic church is so fanatical about it's teachings, if someone dares to question the church, it's supporters treat you like the anti-christ. So if I question the church, and people treat me like I'm the anti-christ simply because I'm questioning church doctrines, then I will become offended and "pick on the catholic church". I figure if the church can "pick on me" for not believing what they believe in, or not following them blindly, then I can pick right back on them. Besides, isn't tolerance supposed to be one of the church's doctrines?

I do not pick on them because I believe God gave each person the right to believe and live the way they want under free will, but the condemning of others that are not like you is an easy way to set yourself up for criticism and I believe that is what happened. Instead of living a life of Love and not judging and letting that be God's job they set themselves up for the hate and backlash of that agenda to take free will out of the hands of the very people God gave it to. I am not picking, but it is fairly easy to see why so many get picked on, just like why all christians (not just catholics) get picked on because those right wing nut jobs hurt God's cause more than the help they say they want to do.

A few possible reasons:

1. It is terribly corrupt.
2. It's teachings do not agree with the Bible:
-no mention of a Pope in the Bible
-no mention of nuns in the Bible
-no mention of transubstantiation in the Bible
-no mention of limbo in the Bible
-no mention of the purgatory in the Bible
-no mention of Cardinals in the Bible
-no mention of baptism by sprinklingi n the Bible
-no mention of indulgences in the Bible
-no mention of lent in the Bible
-no mention of Mass in the Bible
-no mention of altar boys in the Bible
-no mention of worshipping the Mary or the Saints in the Bible
3. Corrupt priests who abuse children are NOT excommunicated and disciplined by the church but instead are embraced, hidden, moved from city to city, and protected by the church

These are just a few reasons why the Catholic Church very well may be the MOST corrupt organization currently on the earth.

purely commence speaking to Him. you do no longer would desire to circulate everywhere, he knows the place you're. Ask Him what He needs you to do, and then be consciously attentive to what is going on around you. he will deliver you a message or messenger. while it happens, ask if that is from Him. you would understand the respond. persist with that training and then and then ask for the subsequent step, etc. you would be surprised on the outcomes. a minimum of that is how i've got been doing it. that is astonishing :)

I pick on all christian sects. I have to. I was raised as both catholic and protestant. I know that both have very negative attributes to education, philosophy, current events and history.
