He is as long as you are the registered owner of that van YOU could be held responsible for any thing that happens with that van.If he were to hit and kill someone and took off YOU could be charged. Even if he stole gasoline and they reported the tag no you are responsible. You would be responsible for parking tickets or anything that happens. Your ins. rates could jump or the ins. company could deny any claim if he was not an insured driver

He is definitely in the wrong because you guys obviously agreed that he had one month to find a job and pay his own way. Since he didn't do that, he broke oral agreement and he is in fault. Just don't expect a court to rule either way cuz you have no paper proof.

he is. this was a business deal. you sold him the van. he is responsible for the insurance and tags. if it gets towed by the cops, that's his loss and his problem. Not yours. I hope you signed a release of liability for the DMV. if not...do so NOW!!
