You can wait as long as you want...get one when the time feels right.

I went thru this several years ago when my dog died at the age of 22 yrs old. I made the mistake of getting a new puppy barely a month later. Don't get me wrong, I loved that new puppy and he was happy and healthy. But technically I should have waited at least 6 months. I regret not doing that. When a pet dies there is a misconception people have to go out right away and "replace" the dog. If you trully love an animal and I think you did, no other animal can replace the one you lost. Take my advice, give yourself a few months to get over the loss of your friend and companion so that when you do get another dog or puppy you can provide him or her with love and your undivided attention. Good luck to you and I am sorry for your loss!

I am a pet lover and I have a dog I have had for 8 years now and I don't know what I would do without him... So I think that if you think that you are ready for another dog than you should get one now. I suggest that you try to rescue one that is about to be put to sleep at your local animal shelter, they are the loyalist pets and will never forget that you gave them a second chance. I hope this helps you... I am very sorry to hear you lost your friend.

Noone can really answer that question but you. There is no set time that you should wait. If you feel you are ready for another dog, then get one. Just know that no matter what, it will never be the one that you just lost. Even if it's the same color/breed. All dogs have very unique personalities.
I'm so sorry for your loss!

I lost my little Maxie about 5 weeks ago. He was with us for over 14 years. Fortunately we have another dog. If I were you, I'd get another dog immediately. A new puppy in the home will definitely ease the pain of your loss. You can mourn your loss but life must go on and remember your pet is waiting for you at the "Rainbow Bridge".

It might seem heartless to some people but sometimes it's will help you to have a new dog right away. It helps with the heartache. We become so attached to our pets. It doesn't mean that you loved the other dog any less but you need to have something to give your love to. Good Luck.

i'm sorry to hear that :(

i don't think there is any set time period to wait i think it all depends on then you feel you're ready, and if you already miss having a dog around ..... i think you're more than ready. Good luck and have fun with the new friend - get a boxer, they're awesome!!

Get one now. Save a puppy or dog from the Humane Society. You will be helping both of you find a new friend.
