Find a good chocolate chip cookie recipe. They can put all the ingredients together themselves and all an adult is needed for is the cooking. They can watch through the oven door as they spread and become cookies, and the best part is they get to have warm gooey cookies to eat and be proud of.

Get some fresh boneless, skinless, chicken breasts, cut it up. Coat it with an egg/water mixture, roll in bread crumbs and bake 30 minutes at 325 degrees.
If you're real lazy, get some shake n bake type coating, and coat the fresh chicken with that mixture. Tastes just as good.
While the chicken is baking, make some fresh mashed potatoes.
If you have a microwave its super easy.
In a microwave safe bowl, add 2 potatoes, washed and cut. Peel if you wish. Poke a few holes in it with a fork.
Fill the bowl with water, put in microwave, cover with paper towel or waxed paper, microwave on high for 8 minutes.
If you don't have a microwave, then do this step first before the chicken:
Put the washed/cut potatoes in a medium pot. Fill the pot with water until the potatoes are covered. Turn on the heat and boil for 40 minutes or until the potatoes are tender, where you can slide a fork into it.
When the potatoes are done (fork should slide easily into it), carefully drain the water. Mash the potatoes or If you do not have a potato masher, use the fork and break the potatoes down until you can mash it. Add a splash of milk, a big spoonful of butter and a shake of salt. Mix well.
For creamier potatoes, add more milk... but not too much milk or it'll turn mushy. Let the potatoes sit a few minutes before serving.
Then for veggies, you can serve fresh veggies (ie: corn on the cob, carrots) or frozen or canned.. whichever you prefer.

Y'can hardly go wrong with macaroni and cheese! Kids seem to have a bottomless stomach when it comes to that. You can buy pasta in an almost endless variety of shapes and sizes, so experiment! Your biggest challenge will be to keep them from spilling boiling water on themselves as they cook the pasta.
How about this: Half a pound of elbow macaroni, cooked al dente and drained and rinsed. Place in a three-quart saucepan and add half a pound of ground beef cooked with half a cup of minced fresh onion and add 1/2 cup of cold water. Bring to a simmer and add a teaspoonful of crushed celery flakes or 1/4 teaspoonful of crushed celery seed. Stir in 1/4 teaspoonful of
garlic powder and a tablespoonful of chili powder. Add a 14-ounce can of crushed or petite-diced tomatoes with Italian spices. Stir thoroughly and bring to a simmer. If the dish needs more liquid, add it - but don't make it soupy, this dish is meant to be thick. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes. Serve in a soup bowl with a sprinkle of grated parmesan cheese on top. Should make four to six servings, depending on how hearty the kids' appetites are! Oh - and give 'em a nice hunk of warm, buttered French bread to eat along with! Milk or iced tea makes a nice drink with this dish. They won't want much in the way of dessert, but if they do want it, a couple plain sugar cookies oughta do it.

Kraft Dinner in the microwave, grilled cheese, or anything in the microwave. There are kids cookbooks out there, it might be a good idea to purchase one. Also, make sure that you go through with the child what they are doing because some recipes or directions may be complicated to them.

jello! for the patient kids, cake out of a box, stick to finger foods like peanut butter in celery. you can make a wagon with the celery by sticking toothpicks through the celery and attaching sliced carrots for wheels. turkey sandwiches. cucumber sandwiches, fruit salads mixed with instant jello pudding, coconut shreds and marshmellows. Chocolate mousse using whipped cream and chocolate syrup.
most suggestions are for children not old enough to use the stove. Is this for children who are home alone or under adult supervision?

One suggestion is cereal because there are so many healthy cereals now - what I used to do was buy the half-pints of milk and place them on the bottom shelf so they wouldn't spill it when they pulled it out. But also depends on how old.
