The biggest problems that I see in singers is that they don't take in enough air and they don't open up when they sing. Breathing exercises will help develop the muslces that control the lungs, and will also add lung capacity.
Using a metronome, practice the following exercise at 90 beats per minute:
1: In four counts, completely fill up your lungs breathing through your mouth. Make sure that you fill up the bottom of the lungs. Your shoulders should barely rise at all.
2: Hold that breath for four counts.
3: Exhale that breath completely out in four counts. To do this, imagine that you are blowing on something hot to cool it. You should be able to hold a piece of paper against the wall with your air pressure. **If you get dizzy from this, SIT DOWN. Dizzyness is normal as your brain has taken in much more oxygen than it is used to. When you feel better, try it again.**
4: Repeat several times daily, adding four more counts to the exercise every week. This will help duration and projection of sound.

When you sing it is important to remember to sing toward the front of your mouth, and make sure to open wide! Breathe from the diaphragm and use it to push the air out in a conistent steady stream. Practice pitch matching, sight singing, and solfege every day you can.

I'm not a singer, just a piano player but I've worked with singers before. Smoking and coffee is no good. If you don't play the piano you should get together with someone that does so you can learn scales and arpeggios which are the fundamental basics of music. That way your ear and sense of pitch will develop. Power and tone will increase gradually with scale-arpeggio training. Also deep breathing to expand your lungs. You should be getting a lot more suggestions from others shortly. By the way, your voice can sing not in just one key, but various keys, since all singing voices have more than 1 octave range. Your key for a particular song would be determined by your ability to sing the lowest and highest note of a song in tune without straining. Good luck and I wish you greatness!

It's very possible to learn to sing well. You just need to know the right methods. Learn here https://tr.im/sbOce

Singing teachers will cost money and can be expensive so they're not for everyone. Singing can be learned so it's not an "either you have it or you don't" kind of thing.

Whether you sound like crap or you're decent, I recommend this singing course. It's one of the best methods to learn to sing well in a short amount of time. It's all about using efficient techniques that work.

Let's see here. For increasing range you just have to practice going higher and lower, using your chest and head voices. Lift your eyebrows when you go higher, it helps. If you have breathy singing try and take deeper breaths and sing from your chest or head, not from your throat. This is bad for the voice. OPEN YOUR MOUTH!! It seems like you open your mouth a lot more than you actually do.
Some warm-up exercises-
Use consonants like--kee kay kee kay kee
Use vowels like--ee, ay, ii, ohh, ooo
Also do things like--Ma Ma Ma
Vee(you do this as high as you can go, this will help with range)
take deep breaths between HA *breath* hay *breath* hee *breath * hoe *breath * HOO

I'm not that great of a singer, but I do know that if you breath with your stomach instead of your lungs then you can hold a note a lot longer. Also, be sure you can do scales and arpeggios. Those are crucial in music. Piano players should be able to help you with that. *nodnod* Good luck! ^^
