You could get a bunch of your old photos and make a collage or customised photo album. If he's scared about moving the relationship forward or doesn't want anyone to know about it then make the outside of the album very non-descript (so he knows u r respecting his feelings) and put heart-felt touches on the inside. You could also make a home movie in which all his friends/family can say their piece and you can add a special message onto the end of it. One of my friends once gave her future partner a book consisting of all the letters and e-mails they had exchanged. It had a really nice recycled paper cover (always look out for the environment!) with their names on it, a personalised poem or letter (can't remember which) on the inside of the front cover and a picture of the 2 of them on the inside of the back cover. These suggestions may sound corny but I think they are one beest ways to tuely convey our feelings about another person. Definately don't go for any of that hallmark/store-bought stuff, it's just nor personal enough.

Since he is going away he won't have the everyday things that he has now. You should make a little gift basket with his favorites. If he likes cars or sports, throw in a magazine or two. Razors, snacks, a mixed CD if he is taking a disc man or something. It's the little things that will matter to him later when he has nothing from the real world! Most of all, give him time to realize what he needs/wants and just be there for him if he needs to talk or anything! Best of luck!!

If he is going into the service, one of the best things you can give him is a rugged wrist watch - a Swiss Army watch. Check out Overstock.com -- they have a tremendous selection of watches and many of them are always on sale. It would take an hour just to look at them all. Another thing you might do is also make up some "coupons" for him - if he is going to be an enlisted guy, then he will be going through Basic first and that is hell in and of itself. The coupons could be for a box of cookies, or a video game - and thngs like that - then he could mail them to you (mail for you!) and you then send him what is on the coupon. Oh, yeah! And a good thing for for guys going into the service is a calling card - in Basic, they will take away his cell phone (if he has one) and he will only be able to call on rare occasions. He will need a calling card to make a call. Check out PennyTalk calling cards on the web.

Ok, here's what you do...Get a picture frame (8 x 10 or bigger) and cut out pictures of his friends, family, hobbies, things that remind him of home. Take a glue-stick and glue the pictures on the board inside the frame to make a collage. Anytime he feels home-sick he can look at it and think of all his family & friends. Plus he will be touched that you took the time to make it yourself.

oh! i know a good game which may help you.
the game is that you have to say 5 things you want the most, so in that way he may let out what he wants and you would have a pretty good idea of what to give him!
good luck! (i played the same trick on my guy friend)

Well what does he talk about? By boyfriend used to talk about this rare coffee that you can't buy in shops any more so I got him some from the net and he loved it. Try something personal that shows that you listen.

Make him a mix of songs that he likes and that my remind him of times you guys spent together. That way when he plays it, he'll hopefully think of you.
good luck

Ryan, a nice desk size photo of yourself, plus some other wallet size photos, should be a delight for him.
