I expect that folks with bad intentions watch CNN (or any other News network) too so I am often surprised when they point out specifically unguarded border crossings. Isn't that like leaving your door unlocked and calling out as you leave that you've left the cash on the table...any old nutbar now knows just where to go.

Awareness is certainly a factor but I've seen them give out the exact locations of unmanned crossings. So it's like "hey, mr. bad guy you can cross freely after darf on RR#4 down dirt road #1 and through the wooden gate at the end of Farmer Brown's lane... big flashing lights couldn't be clearer.

by the way I notice most of your responses refer to the US / Mexico border...I should have stressed the Un-gunned northern border. As for the Mexicans..they only want a better life...not at all unlike your own ancestors who came to the new world a few hundred years ago or even a few years ago. Immigration isn't the issue here...open borders crossings in these dangerous times is the issue. Terror not hope for a new life.

I think it is also. Just like it is so stupid for our media to tell us on the news about which are the most likely terrorist targets and what the terrorists may do next. DUH, Dont they realize that the terrorists have access to TVs also, as well as the internet where you can find the news stories there!

I don't think it's even relevant. The government of Mexico literally tells their people that the northern border is weak, and as another poster pointed out, they give out maps. The media, as bad as it is, isn't making this particular problem that much worse.

Wouldn't it be MORE counterproductive for the media to ignore border weakness? At least with awareness, the problems can be addressed.

CNN isn't exactly out to protect America's interest. But it is comforting to know we have a free press that is not under the control of the government.

It's counterproductive for the media to point out A LOT of things. It's normally counterproductive for you to watch it, too.

I agree. How about this. The Mexican government give them maps to find their way accross the desert safely.
