If one is converting just to get a mate, then imho, it IS hyprocrisy in my world. Religion or lack-thereof needs to be kept within the individual's heart and/or head. :-)

If environmental factors play a bigger hand than internal factors, then the honesty within the religion (or lack of) will not be sincere. Plus, person may not be completely happy internally, either.

Depends on the conversion. If you are converting from Christianity to Hindu, you probably have issues. If you are "converting" from Methodist to Baptist, it probably isn't that big of a deal.
It all comes down to your reasons. If you make any type of conversion because it is truely what you believe, there should be no issue. If you are converting because you want to please your spouse, then that is a problem.

It can be, but it needn't be! I have seen young people quickly come into another religion to be able to date or marry, and then have it all fall apart when reality sets in. On the other hand, I have seen a situation where a gentleman left Southern Baptists to become a Catholic so that he could marry the woman he loved. They had two children, raised them, and the wife fell away from the Catholics totally. He, on the other hand, went on to progress in his faith to a degree you seldom see these days. So as I said, it CAN be, but it doesn't have to be.

One should only convert if he is totally convinced cuz that religion thing is between you and God.. you don't have to convert for the sake of your partner. i mean when choosin' a religion you should only think about what you really believe in and what you are convinced of. Another thing i wanna add which is the fact that Christianity, Judaism and Islam are all religions of ONE God. we don't really differ or oppose each other as we think :)
Goodluck and thanks, dear

wish ya da best ever!

Absolutely. The only reason for conversion is if one feels that this way of life and afterlife is what a person truly believes in. It should be a personal matter between the believer and his/her Creator, and should have absolutely no outside influences.

depends on what you're converting to, and if you really believe it.

say you were a devout fundamentalist christian who converts to satanism. i hardly think you could ever be true to your new religion because the tenants of each are so far apart.
if its from catholicsm to protestantism, that's not a huge leap, most of the morals are the same, so it would be a change you could do without altering yourself too much.

I don't think a person should convert for a reason as that, you have the knowledge in yourself who you are, can you change who you are, will you change your beliefs automatically and shut your old ones off, I believe you should search your soul.

Only if a person actively opposes the practices or rituals of the adopted religion.

Why would it be hypocrisy to exchange one opinion of a fairy tale for another opinion of the same fairy tale? The fairy tale is still a fairy tale.

If you are speaking of converting to Christianity, it is not possible, unless Jesus is in your heart. You have to want to believe in Jesus, you can't just go through the motions of pretending. If you do, you won't go to Heaven. God still knows what is in our hearts. So, it is impossible to work that way.
