I will not dress them in the summer only in the winter when they are outside. Because they might get cold.

Some people like to dress their dogs up or dye their poodles pink. It doesn't hurt the dogs, but most people will think you're a flake. You should really have a better reason than wanting an ornament to show off before you get a dog.
They can be expensive to buy and take care of. A pup can cost $1000 or more. Puppy shots are another $200, then $100 a year. Annual Heartworm test and preventative medication $100. Professional trainer $600. Going on vacation? Boarding kennel $40/day.
Spaying? $250.
Dogs are terrific companions but they require training and discipline and exercise. You can't hang out and party all night with your friends, because you have to take the dog out every six hours - the smaller the dog, the more often they have to go out. What happens if you go away to college?
Chihuahuas can be great dogs, but they can also be yappy, nippy, dominant little horrors that never get housebroken. You need to let them walk on all fours and train them just like a "real" dog.
Get some good books and read up on training before you get the dog.
Try not to do it randomly - there are a lot of bad books out there also! These are some of my favorites:
Don't Shoot the Dog - Pryor
Training Your Dog: The Step by Step Method - Volhard
What All Good Dogs Should Know - Volhard
Good Owners, Great Dogs - Brian Kilcommins
Dog Problems - Benjamin
Cesar's Way - Cesar Millan
Also, watch the Dog Whisperer on the National Geographic Channel. Cesar Millan is the best trainer I've ever seen on tv.

Are you ready for all of the time commitment and money that it take to properly care for a dog?
Please try to find a local breeder so that you can see their mother and if possible their father. Also you will want to see in what conditions they are kept in. Consider getting a dog from a rescue organization, try Petfinder.com, there are many Chihuahua's listed there for adoption.
How many hours a day will the puppy be spending alone? When they are small they need to go outside every 2-3 hrs, right after they wake up and 30 minutes after eating or drinking.
You will need a good vet to keep your dogs shots up to date, get them micro chipped, spayed or neutered and for any other medical issues. Always find a vet before you buy a puppy. Ask your family and friends for a referall to a good vet in your area.
You will need to buy the puppy food, toys, treats, a crate/kennel/cage, leashes, collars, food and water bowls, just to list a few items.
You should also take your puppy to obedience classes to properly train and socialize them. Then you must spend 10-15 minutes several times a day reinforcing and practising what you have learned in class. Find a good trainer, again by word of mouth, not the yellow pages. You will want a trainer that has a lot of experience with a variety of different issues that might come up.
As far as dressing up your dog, that's a personal choice. In the summer generally you will have a difficult time with this for the same reasons people listed above. In the winter however because the dog is so small it will need sweaters, coats and jackets to help keep it warm.
If you know that you will be able to care for this dog properly and do the proper leg work BEFORE getting the dog then go for it!! Having a dog in your life is a wonderful thing!

The reason small dogs are so neurotic is because children put them in clothes and carry them around like toys. If you want something to dress up and carry around, get a doll.
If you want a pet, who keeps all four of his feet on the floor, whom you take for walks, and feed and water every day for the next 15 years, and take to the vet for shots and heartworm prevention once a year, who will wait patiently for you at home while you are out, but IMpatiently at home if you are always out, then get a dog.

An important thing to remember is that Chihuahua have a dominant, often aggressive personality. No dog should be treated like a dress up toy, especially Chihuahuas. Dont believe everything you see on TV. They wont just sit in your lap and be a trophy.

Before relegating yourself to buying a dog from a no-doubt disreputable online breeder, check out your local animal shelters. You can look them up online at the links below.
If you don't have any luck there, you should contact the national breed club for chihuahuas. They can put you in touch with local chihuahua rescue people, or if not that, recommend a reputable local breeder.

A dog is not some little doll to dress up!
If you want the dog because you want to dress it up like Paris does to her little dog then don't get a dog! Go out and buy a doll!

go on the website & try to find breeders close to your state./home
check them out too cause you do not want to get a sick dog & pay out the bucks for it...
as I live in Canada & we get very cold winters here I put a winter coat on my chihuaha as she is a short haired dog...
you can put little sweaters on them as they do get cold
but personally I don;t like to see animals in weird outfits know what I mean???
also they have a one person dog...very protective & bark at anything..but are lots of fun to have around they need lots of attention too..
good luck with your search.

I certainly will not tell you a breeder if your gonna dress them up and carry them around. My chihuahuas hate having clothes on. It takes less than a minute for them to take them off and pee on them.
