What exactly makes you feel like you are entitled to the benefits of American citizenship (social service programs) without the responsibilities (paying taxes into these programs)? And please don't start the racist BS, I am not a racist. I obey the law. If I did not, I would go to jail. WHAT makes you think you are entitled to a free ride from the American taxpayers?

PiaTch!, Actually, I am not on any social service programs. However, if I ever needed to be I would have that RIGHT because I have been paying taxes for years. I am a LEGAL American citizen. Now, could you answer the question?

jas2world, I live in an area that is heavily affected by illegal immigration and I KNOW many of them are on food stamps because I work at a store. As far as what I said about not being able to read the question, that is not racist. The FACT is that MANY of them do not speak or understand English and DO NOT ATTEMPT TO LEARN HOW. If I thought ALL illegal immigrants were either "illiterate or couldn't speak English", why would I have asked the question?

MR. PRESIDENT, I'M HEADED TO MEXICO (Humor? You decide!)

Subject: MR. PRESIDENT, I'M HEADED TO MEXICO
Dear President Bush:
I'm about to plan a little trip with my family and extended family, and I would like to ask you to assist me. I'm going to walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and I need to make a few arrangements. I know you can help with this.
I plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, ports, immigration quotas and laws. I'm sure they handle those things the same way you do here.
So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Vicente Fox, that I'm on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:
1. Free medical care for my entire family.
2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.
3. All government forms need to be printed in English.
4. I want my kids to be taught by English-speaking teachers.
5. Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.
6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the flag pole at their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.
7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and lunch.
8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can get easy access to government services.
9. I do not plan to have any car insurance, and I won't make any effort to learn local traffic laws.
10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from Pres. Fox to leave me alone, please be sure that all police officers speak English.
11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic lebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.
12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, and don't enforce any labor laws or tax laws.
13. Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice and never say a critical word about me, or about the strain I might place on the economy.
I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all the people who come to the U.S. from Mexico. I am sure that Pres. Fox won't mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely.
However, if he gives you any trouble, just invite him to go quail hunting with your V.P.
Thank you so much for your kind help.

I AM AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT... I am an of mexican herritage. I am 16 years old. I have a grade point average of 4.1 out of 5.0. I am a senior in high school. I have very good grades in all my classes, I have 5 out of 8 AP and Honors classes and currently pursuing my A+ certiication, which I passed the Hardware and take the OS test in 2 weeks. I have no drivers licence, I have never gotten in trouble with the law, my dad is an illegal immigrant also, and he is the owner of a Paint and Body shop. I cannot drive, I cannot get a job, I cannot go on vacation like everyone does. I cannot apply for financial aid to go to college. I dont even know If I will be able to go to college, just because I dont have a social security number and the money to. Both of parents pay taxes through an ITIN number, yet we still get no chance of being successful...Imagine if this was you...Having all of this, but at the end it served nothing just because the government is made up of assholes. I dont ask for all the benefits...just 1 or 2, the ability to drive a vehicle and to go to college. IS THIS ILLEGAL?

What makes you think YOU deserve it?
You know most of these immigrants work hard, some of them do pay taxes. Those who doesn't are probably the ones not given the opportunity to be legal to have the proper process of filing income taxes. Be careful what you say. How would you feel say, you are one of them? And the use of "free ride"? Such a harsh address. Sorry to say, but it is more and more becoming a fact that immigrants are better workers than American Citizens - and I think it's because we all, at some point, take this citizenship for granted.
I have been paying taxes my whole life too. What do you have against them anyway? It's not like they're going to make your rights and privileges any less?

Well, if you were really neutral and not racist about the issue, you would not have said "that can manage to read the question." By that statement alone you are saying that you believe that all immigrants are illiterate or cannot speak English, which is not true. To me, that belief smacks of intolerance and racism.
How many illegals do you know? Probably none. If you got to know them like I have, you'd realize they are usually good people like you who DO pay taxes (sales tax, for instance) and actually most of them do not get many benefits of citizenship. They're ILLEGAL, which makes them scared of the law and therefore scared to do anything that would involve them in anything relating to the government, even health or food stamp benefits.

I am not an illegal immigrant, but this whole "breaking the law" argument is completely foolish. You do break the law. EVERYONE breaks the law at some point in time. Everyone occassionally speeds or jay-walks and lies on their taxes a little bit.

To all of you who are thinking of turning me in to the IRS, you might as well turn yourselves in too because I know that you (or your CPA/tax attorney) has stretched the truth a little to get more back on your taxes, so don't play like you haven't. You might have even made a mistake that wasn't even your fault, but the point is that EVERYONE has cheated the government out of its money somewhat.

The point is that EVERYONE has broken the law at some point and not everyone has gone to jail for it (or been deported). The only explanation that I can think of is some sort of racism that is going on in the country that has been created by certain politicians to divert the American public from the real issues- kids dying in Iraq, soaring gas prices, continually declining average household income, etc., etc. The same thing happened in Germany right before the holocaust. People in Germany were very angry because of all the problems that Germans were going through (ie- an awful economy). So, they decided to point the finger at an easy target, the Jews. I'm not saying that Americans are going to start exterminating illegal immigrants, but I am saying that because we are suffering and angry with our government right now, we are pointing fingers at an easy target and blaming them for our problems. As modern, educated citizens, we must learn from the mistakes of the past. I urge you to think about this before you cast the stone at illegal immigrants.

Okay, so it's true that the question is somewhat inflammatory...There are all kinds of illegal immigrants who are educated. Sadly, there is probably an equivalent or larger number of legal citizens who aren't smart enough to get the question. Honestly, I wasn't going to answer, until I saw BadBone's response, which just took me over the edge (you might be able to tell by my notes). I try to keep away from the politically charged questions, but I had to chime in.

To RN BSN - Nice answer...thanks for the chuckle!

And I'm right behind rfjanssen in turning in Princess to the IRS!!

To BadBone - WTF? How can your father possibly be running a business and submitting taxes, without immigration coming to deport him? That is a tragic statement regarding the ability of our government to monitor what's getting thru our borders. Honestly, this frightens me! How can we possibly keep terrorists out, if we can't even keep track of who has already made it in?!?!
Also, if you're upset about all the things you can't do here, all I can say is GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM. You act as if what you're missing is some kind of entitlement...That this is due to you, and somehow WE are the ones who are preventing you from getting it. But that's not how it is. All of us LEGAL citizens had to work for all of that...it wasn't just granted to us. And there are lots of legal citizens who can't go to college because they can't afford it!! You know there are colleges in Mexico, right? If you don't like it, GO GET YOUR CITIZENSHIP for pete's sake!!!
You say imagine if this was me, well, I do imagine that I would work to gain citizenship. I know lots of people who have done it!!! You can too!!!
Feel free to go be successful somewhere else, if you don't like your chances here (which are actually probably better than a lot of legal citizens).
BTW, who says we all get vacation? I haven't been anywhere for years, because I have to work, and because I have to pay the IRS, which leaves nothing extra for fun things.
To address your question, YES, IT IS ILLEGAL for you to be here without authorization. You are stealing taxpayer dollars by attending public school. And to think you want to steal more by driving around on our public streets, and getting financial aid for college (which would mean that another LEGAL citizen would not be able to get it).
Get over yourself. Welcome to America...If you wanna stay, become a citizen. If this doesn't appeal to you, go back to Mexico. It's really a simple choice.

Lemme wager: you're white, overweighted, approximately 6 ft tall, placed on a moustache, placed on shades each and all the time, a hat on your head, talk with Southern accessory, hear to u . s . a . song, difficult middle Republican, Baptist of path, a rifle on your hand and top now you're the two on your way out to connect your fellow minutemen or back living house to lust after your obese spouse.
