My hair is nice when it's wet. But when it dries, it goes into what I think is a puffy ball of hair. Everyday, after I take a shower, I always put my hair in a pony because I know that it gets puffy. I want to try and put it down more often. I need your advise on what i can do to my hair.

I'm not going to shave it off so that eliminates that idea right off the bat.

I have it cut layered. I also use a comb. Is it okay to use a comb with my type hair???

I usually just pull my comb straight through my hair. Is that good to do with my type hair???

I already tried to straighten my hair, but I suck at it. I want to know what else I can do.

I bought serum before, but I guess it doesn't work if you can't straighten your hair. Otherwise, it will just be like gel.

First off I would see a professional stylist and get a good haircut. Sometimes all you need is a bit of shape and style to have your hair naturally sit nicer. Nothing drastic but a trim here, layers there goes a long way with bothersome hair. I would also recommend deep conditioning treatment once a week or at least every other week to keep hair healthy. Try to keep on as long as possible so the conditioner will penetrate the hair shaft. Products containing silicone (be careful to use just a small amount - too much causes hair to look greasy) and leave in conditioners also work well without causing hair to become still with product build up.

ok never ever pull a comb straight through your hair that will cause more breakage and frizzies. start at the ends of your hair working the knots out. flat ironing isn't as hard as it seems. some tips with a flat iron first nothing in cosmetology is purely perfect we have to work on it everyday. i've burned my hands so many times and some times my flat ironing isn't as straight as i want it. but a trick is you need to section your hair.. this will help control it. part down the center of your head like pigtails, then from ear to ear. ( you will need clips) and start at the nape taking thin no bigger than the width of your finger sub sections. get the iron as close to the scalp with out actually burning yourself. slide it to the end of the hair section. and then repeat with the next subsection. it takes a little while to do... but once you get good at it it will take 15- 20 min. if you can't do it, then i would suggest curling it. curling irons will also take the frizz out.

Ok #1 go to the salon and get a Keraphix treatment. #2 buy redkin's smoothdown use it sparingly then flat iron.. you will end up with silky soft beautiful hair. you may want to go to your hair stylist and ask what is the right temp on the flatiron for your hair.. trust me i know. 1 i have poofy curly hair and i do this daily 2 i'm a cosmotology student

I know exactly how you feel. I had hair like that in the 8th grade. I started doing this. Go get your hair cut every month on a regular basis. After they cut it, tell them to give you a Hot Oil Treatment. They don't cost much and they take like 15 minutes. A salon oil treatment does better than those things you buy from a store. Eventually your hair will start to relax. Also, get shampoo and conditioner with moisture in it. This will keep your hair hydrated and lower the puffiness. I use either Frizz - Ease or tresemme. In about 6 months, your hair will be smoother. Trust me

I have the same problem but i straighten my hair.....and it works...Try straightening again only this time in small layers, pin the rest on top of your had while you straighten, then one your done with the first layer put that small portion in a ponytail then let more hair down, then just keep repeating the process, if your hair is thick make sure it is on the highest heat setting, if its thin keep it on medium to low heat. And make sure your hair is all the way DRY.. make sure to use a good kind of conditoner also...The best of Luck to you! God Bless

If your hair is waivy and puffs up after drying, you're likely to suffer from extreme freeze, try using moose, or hair gel which will give you the wet effect even after it dries. try to use a strong hair gel insted of using hair spray and hair gel together, that will help you prevent hair lose. Also on the weekends or time when you're not doing anything, put on conditioner for 30 -60 minutes at a time, the one I refer to everyone is the L'Oreal Color Vive, Iove it, and so does everyone else who uses it. You may also find deep conditioners that you can put on your hair for about 30 minutes, that will eliminate uild up from the hair gel and moose.

If your hair is freezy and you're strying to straighen it out, and it stays freeze, invest on a professional hair iron, you will never regret it, you can go into the internet and search under FHI, CHI hair irons, they make the best ones, but e sure to low dry it and them go back with the iron on top, it gives you the really good results.

Good luck!

well, you need to start trying some hair products to tame your mane!! i wish i could help more, is your hair curly?? fly-away problems?? frizz control needed?? first identify your main problem and then GO TO IT. :D try some new shampoo/conditioner made for your hair, and a styling product like a mousse, gel, cream, etc. you could also use a straightener, or a blowdryer....... IMPORTANT - also make sure you have a haircut that works with your hair type. If not go see a hair stylist and get a good cut and good advice.

LOVE YOUR HAIR!!!!! it is unique and deserves to get out of that ponytail!!

Use a good conditioner. And you get these really awesome products in the market that actually delivers results and fights frizz and flyaways without causing too much damage with chemicals and yada yadaa. And you could probably invest in a good ceramic hair straightener or a blow drier (gives you more style varieties), but use a serum that buffers your hair before you treat it to all that heat.

condition, condition, condition! It sounds like your hair is damaged or naturally dry. Definitely cut off the split ends and as much of the damaged part as possible, then try a hot oil treatment. Try changing up your shampoo, too, because residue build-up can cause frizziness. Are you a teenager? When I was in middle school, I went from straight-as-a-stick hair to curly (see my avatar? my hair actually looks like that) almost overnight. Bodily changes could have changed your hair type without you knowing it, so maybe you need to change how you treat it (style, shampoo, etc).

First of all, you need professional help! Go to a high quality hair dresser (it might be more expensive, though) and ask her to show you how she is sytling your hair. you can also get a gloss treatment, which deep-conditions and smooths hair leaving it silky and shiny. I have mid-back length hair it costs about $30 - $40 for me to get a gloss treatment done, and it lasts about a month or two. And what i've discovered, layers are HORRIBLE for super thick, curly, puff ball hair. If you want to make your hair look less frizzy, grow it out all one length!!

This "puffy" syndrome your hair has is called frizz. Have you tried an anti-frizz serum or lotion, such as John Freida's Frizz-Ease? I used to have the same problem. Your hair doesn't like humidity. John Freida has a line of hair care products made for hair just like yours. They're decently priced too. I recommend the shampoo, conditioner, and anti-frizz serum.
