Did you report the theft to the police? If not, you need to do so immediately. Press charges. Hopefully, the statute of limitations hasn't expired.
You might also be able to file a civil suit to recover the value of the car. The statute of limitations on that may well have already run out.
You should speak to an attorney for further advice.

Since its three years later it's likely the statutue of limitations has run out. What you should have done was reported it stolen immeditely and then involved a lawyer after you found out he forged your signature on DMV documents. He could've been charged with grand theft auto and fraud.

How did he get the registration put in his name if your name is on the title? I would take him to small claims court. He has done this illegally and hopefully you can receive some compensation.

Forget small claims court, he should be charged criminally. Contact your local District Attorney and have him charged criminally. They should be able to get a copy of the title from your state and hopefully you can prove that it is not your signature.

He must have forged your signature... because you can't transfer a title with out a signature of the previous owner.

first off you should have reported it stolen its never to late to take him to court for it because it was in his hands and if you have proof that you paid for it or was making payments on it then you can still get him to repay for it plus the stress and pain he put you thru so good luck peace
