Isn't is good to be critical?
Critical thinking is not taught in our schools or used enough in everyday situations, we should all be prepared to question everything and anything...especially those things that try to set themselves above criticism...and especially when people tell you not to question something or that it is bad to question something...what do you think?

olddude451, yes they tell me I shouldn't question faith constantly, and they call it mockery or offense to make criticism sound like a bad thing which it is not.

Criticism without tack is like surgery with a dull blade.

The only time that you're not allowed to question is when you SUBMIT yourself TO OBEDIENCE and DISCIPLINE, like enlisting to join the Military/Academy, primarily; or like being hired by a strict employer, to a much lesser degree. Other than that you should be able to ask questions to get a fuller understanding of the subject at hand.
By the tone of your query, you already sound defensive by raising a defense mechanism that you label as 'critical thinking'... as in "The best defense is offense" type of thinking, although I do know where you're coming from.
ANGER when done hastily, and explosively, heightens one's emotions to regrettable proportions that will not only cloud one's decision-making process but may also be too difficult to take back when all is said and done .
The axiom that "Calmer minds prevail" is a subtle truism that has been proven time and again by heads of state and leaders of nations alike, especially in the most critical times of human conflicts and wars. Do take that advise to heart in contemplating each and every response you get as you seek WISDOM from the new knowledge that you've acquired...
Peace be with you!

Take your question, and assumption, for instance: Has anyone actually told you not to question things, or tell you it's bad to do so? I doubt it. You may have come across an individual(s) who is defensive or afraid to respond to your question...and there are people who avoid confrontational issues at all cost, especially regarding religion, but that has to do more with their personality, and level of confidence. Arguing is actually an art, and some embrace it, some don't. I'm not sure it can be taught. Interesting idea though, now that I think about it.
OK...you win. You have a point.
Addendum:
I would tend to shy away any faith or group of people who stifle inquiring minds. How can one arrive at truth otherwise? Take their word for it, shut up and sit down?? That's perhaps too blunt. but I am bit of a cynic, so go figure. And a Christian to boot. (There's a miracle for you.) Anyway, I wish you luck and God speed.

I believe what you are talking about is raising your voice about the matters that bug you, but you are not able to do so because these matters are viewed as 'taboos' in the society, or the things above society like religion...
I believe, when one stops being critical and stops asking questions, then that person or that society starts dying a slow death but a sure death!
Being critical and questioning help people go ahead!

It is essential to be critical. But in these matters there's more at stake than meets the eye. As a rule, if you are approaching religious issues from an intellectual perspective you are already a suspicious character to religious people. There are personal, emotional dimensions to religious thinking that generally put it beyond the reach of reasoned discourse.

Since most faiths consider themselves absolute and infalible, they cannot tolerate critical thinking. To find one aspect of a faith false renders the entire faith false.
Believers know that to think risks the invalidation of their entire belief system. It's easier to just not think.

Good point. I believe that it is naive and ignorant to criticize someone for searching for the truth. Its human nature to want to learn, prove and disprove. Its pure laziness not to.

Its always easier to do the wrong thing, so pretense would probably be easier. If however you are a person with intergity you would answer this and all questions as truthful as you can

The devil and his angels roam around down here to DECIEVE whom-ever they can. You should question EVERYTHING, even what GOD tell's you( it's o.k. to, GOD can handle it) till you are sure IT IS THE TRUTH!!!!!. Anybody on this EARTH can be decieved!!! EVEN ME!!!!!! That's why I ask GOD to break all DECEPTION out of my mind every now and then, to make sure I am on the right track, and stay on the right track!!!!! I used to ask HIM a whole lot, every day and then some, after I got Born-Again, then as you learn, you start to GROW and it takes the devil alot longer and harder to try to decieve you.
