um... i'm pretty sure alcohol will stay in your system for about 12- 24 hours. Do you have a breastpump? This is what my sis did, she pumped enough bottles to last a day, before she went drinking. It may take a little while to get that much but if you dont want it getting into the baby's system (which would be like poison to them) that's the best way to go. The day after you go out, pump and discard the breastmilk to keep yourself from getting engourged, and feed the baby the "clean" breastmilk. also drink a lot of water. If you don't have or can't use a pump, i strongly suggest NOT drinking. If your baby won't take a bottle at all, try one of those newer ones that have the "real" nipples...

I did the same thing. But I pumped my milk. If your baby will not take a bottle than I suggest you don't have anymore than one alcoholic beverage. If you have more than that it will come out in your milk and hurt your baby. I know you can have one drink because that's what my doctor told me. He said I could have one glass of wine a day if I wanted to. You could still try to introduce the bottle. It would be so much easier for you. You could pump enough milk for the next day. Then drink all you want that night. Then that next day you'd just pump that milk and poor it down the drain. 24 hours after you had the drinks your milk should be fine.

I know the feeling trust me lol. But when my daughter was little I pumped enough for 24 hours then drank and fed her pumped milk. and for the next 24 hours I would pump and toss the milk cause the alcohol would still be in the milk. The sad part is that after a few times of doing that the alcohol started drying my milk supply and my daughter started to like the bottle more. I don't know all the dr terms of how to do this other than my experience hope it helps

I agree with the breast pump comment. Try to pump right before you leave and keep the milk in a good container in the coolest part of the fridge. After you drink, drink lots of water and don't breast feed for at least the day after. Pump more than you think you will need. Don't drink a lot when you go out.

I agree, breast pump. The baby won't starve even if it refuses to drink breast milk from a bottle. Don't stay out too long and don't get drunk. Because if you have to care for the baby with a hangover it won't be pleasant. And if you have to take care of a baby while drunk, it's terrible. When you are responsible for a baby you have to be sober. But i support your plan of out for a few drinks while the baby sleeps.

You can express the milk, so whoever is looking after the baby can actually feed her when you are away. It'll still get the nutrients from breast milk, however, have you tried giving her a bottle, because some babies don't take to it.

The alcohol would still be in your system, even wine. Don't take a chance with that precious life. Go out, enjoy yourself but have soft drinks or any non-alcoholic beverages. You don't need alcohol to have a good time.

Alcohol and Breastfeeding
Alcohol (ethanol) passes quickly into breast milk and may reach levels equivalent to or higher than the mother's alcohol blood level. However, alcohol is not "trapped" in breast milk and will return into the mother's bloodstream as the mother's alcohol blood level decreases [1]. Overall a breast fed infant would be expected to receive about 6% of the maternal dose of ethanol after moderate maternal social drinking [2].
Acetaldehyde, the toxic metabolite of alcohol, does not appear to pass into breast milk [2].
The American Academy of Pediatrics has classified alcohol (ethanol) as a drug "Usually Compatible With Breastfeeding" [3]. The American Academy of Family Physicians considers an occasional alcoholic drink compatible with breastfeeding [4]. Nonetheless, the acceptable lower limit of alcohol in breast milk has not been established.
Reported adverse effects of alcohol on the nursing infant have included disruption of sleep patterns [5,6], hypoglycemia [7], and reduced breast milk intake[8,9]
In 1989 a study of 400 infants concluded that ethanol ingested through breast milk has a slight but significant detrimental effect on infant motor development but not mental development [10]. A more recent study of 915 18-month-old toddlers did not find a deficit in motor skills associated with ethanol ingested through breast milk[11].
Women who wish to drink socially may reduce exposure to their infants by storing milk before drinking and /or waiting for complete alcohol elimination from the breast milk.
The calculator "Estimated Time Until Zero Level of Alcohol in Breast Milk" may be used to estimate the time it would take to eliminate alcohol in the breast milk after consuming a given number of alcoholic drinks.
