Okay, this one is very cheap & easy and it will get ALL the children interested. Get paper cups, and some styrofoam or something that can be cut into blocks. Glue the cup to the block and wrap it in golden foil. Ta-da!!! Custom made trophies for the #1 DAD!!! The children can then add handles and decorate them with pipe cleaners, markers, stickers, etc... Have Fun!!!

Hang on a sec, I'm going to get the poem I'm using for my father's day projects for the kids I keep in my home day care, be right back.
Well, I can't find it at the moment, I'll keep looking, but what I'm going to do is type out the poem on some card stock, and then paint the kids' feet and put their footprints on either side of the poem. The poem talks about what their feet may do one day, explore the moon or walk along the shore. I found it when I did a yahoo search for handprint and footprint poems. Anyway, then I'm taping the paper to a plain photo mat and letting the kids color the mat, or use stickers, or whatever and I'll write Father's Day 2006 on the mat as well. I did the same thing for Mother's Day except I used handprints and a handprint poem. This way all the parents will have a matching set, I know a little late for this year, but maybe an idea for you for next year. Good luck!
Found it!!! I have to hurry, nap time is almost over!
Someday I'll jump through puddles, take a stroll or run a race,
Someday I'll walk across the street, or maybe walk in space,
Someday I'll scale a mountain , or join a ballet corps,
Someday I'll walk a tightrope, or explore the ocean floor,
Someday these feet will do some things that only heaven knows,
But for today they're happy just to wiggle all their toes.
I'm thinking about changing the ballet corps line to a boy sounding thing for the boys and leaving it for the girls. haven't thought of what to change it to yet. Hope that helps!

that paper plate idea is great for ages 1-10. have glitter for the older kids includes those buttons and thos soft lil balls if you know wat i am talking about. get paint pens or not. markers are fine. water colors are fun for the older kids. but with the younger kids you need at least one other teacher or coworker to help you, cuz it's a mess. the younger ones don't need glitter, you can use the pipe cleaners diff. colors. do you know wat pipe cleaners are? the fuzzy things you can bend and you can make a bracelet out of. i think you should find a father's day card for the lil ones that they can color. or draw something like a father with their family and make copies so the lil ones can color it and decorate it with finger paint or watever. the parents don't expect the lil ones to have a master piece. so, it's okay.
here's another idea for the older kids. you can get some beads a varity of bead and use the pipe cleaners to put the beads on and they can make a necklace or a bracelet for their dads.

Use paper plates, ribbon, string, buttons, and other cheap materials and have the kids make their father's face out of the plate! Buttons for eyes, string for a mouth, etc. That will work great for the younger kids.
For the older kids, have them make a coupon book for their fathers. Coupons can be redeemed for things like washing dishes, folding clothes, and so forth. The dads will get a kick out of it and that's cheap, too! :)
Have fun!

Material: White T-shirt, size XXL, various finger paints.
Project: Have the children put paint on their hands, and make their handprints on the T-shirt. You can also paint something on the T-shirt, like "World's Greatest Dad" or something else.

Have them dip their foot in paint and put a footprint on a sheet of manila or white paper. Then beside it write (either you or them if they can write). "I'M WALKING IN YOUR FOOTSTEPS DADDY" beside the footprint. After drying, glue to a sheet of construction paper. Then either laminate or don't depending on your budget.
