my son is 13, i don't know what a "soother" is, but i do know how to wean. Ur daughter will go to sleep without that thing, but it has to be gradual. Try only giving it to her at night. During the day, it's just gonna have to be war. Ur the Mom and ur bigger than she is. If ur not physically abusing her, then a little(or alot) of crying never hurt anybody. As far as that "bad temper" goes, you better get her out of that and soon, because no body but you is gonna put up with her foolishness. It didn't happen overnight that she became dependent---it's not gonna happen overnight that she get off it. Be patient and consistent like you were before when you gave her the bottle and soother to shut her up. Bottom line--you created this monster--you gotta wean her off. You can do it. It won't be easy and there will be times when you wanna pull your hair out. That's Motherhood. good luck

Hi as a father of 4 children. My second child was a dummy sucker. Looking after children is not in my opinion an exact science. Now my kids are teenagers, my second child still sucks her thumb and she is 19. However she has a well paid job and a loving boyfriend. She would not come off the dummy for quite a while. At first it was teething but she would not break the dummy habit. None of my other kids ever used a dummy or soother.
As for a very bad temper. If kids are not happy in some way thet have to do something. Sometime it could be a food related issue. Food has a lot of colours and E numbers which can react.

Sounds like my daughter when she was that age....
I got her switched off the bottle to a sippy cup only by
everyone making a big deal about what a big girl she was.
Now the soother on the other hand was more challenging, she was just over 3 when it finally DISAPPEARED... we searched high and low (she helped) couldn't find the darn thing. Was about 2 days of crying at nap time and bed times but she finally forgot about it.
The rumors seem true.... we are looking at braces for this child.
My son on the other hand didn't bottle feed or have a soother and his teeth are near perfect.
Get her off the soother as soon as possible.
Good Luck

My son also loves his green binki soother when he goes to bed and he just turned18 months. But he is getting to the point now that he hardly uses it at all. I feel the best way is to let them gradualy get off the bottle and soother themselves. But you can help them by showing them big boy/girl things instead of the bottle or the soother. Also dont let her temper sway you...she just wants to se eyou get upset act like nothing is happening and she will slowly stop the tantrums :) Hope that helps!!

my son use to spit soother out so never had a prob there, all i can suggest is when ever they need it think of some thing that ya child loves to pre occupy their mind.as with the weaning them of the bottle, try getting those toddler cups with lid where they can drink out of with out the spillage they are great, dont worry if they dont use it much to start with they will soon, just put a little drink in and leave it where they can get hold of it.my son loved that.

Well I wouldnt expect her to give up both at the sam etime... it is too much to expect. You will have to gradually limit the babies time with each object and take it slow especially if she has a temper...I say get rid of th epacifier first then work on th ebottle.

Put an artificial insect on it & show it 2 her, it might frighten her in2 having it again. A more harsh way is 2 put some unpleasant tasting items on it so she wouldn't want 2 taste it again.

It will take a bit of time but if you gradually take her off it she will be ok..also ask the pediatrician for ideas.
