Downtown LA is dead on weekend nights, except the Disney Concert hall /Music Center part. There are some really nice restaurants in the downtown area, but that's basically it. However, north of the downtown area is Little Tokyo, China Town and Olvera Street, which in the daytime has great shops and restaurants.

If you travel along the 110 or 405 freeway, those are the poorer parts of the LA community. You will notice more graffitti and bars on windows. There's no touristy things to do there, so really unles you planned on going there, you have no business being there. Another area that doesn't have much to do is near the LAX airport.

What is good...
If you want to go to clubs or fancy restaurants, stay along the Sunset Blvd. If you want to see high end shopping, there's Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. There's also the famous Farmers Market and the Grove shopping center, located near the CBS studios in the Fairfax area. Venice Beach is good for gawking at the unusual beach patrons and muscle men... as well as Santa Monica Pier.

As a rule of thumb, even the "Nice" parts of town can have bad things going on. Be aware of your surroundings, and you'll be fine.

Honestly, all of los angeles. Even in the "good parts" bad things can still happen to you.

But I'd say you definately should stay away from specifically downtown L.A. at night unless you want to see crack heads smokin right next to while hitting on you and rats so strange and big they could be confused as really ugly dogs.

places to stay: with the aid of fact that l. a. is so unfolded, there's no single place it is close to to each thing. maximum people who come right here tend to stay in Hollywood, Santa Monica, or Anaheim. Even in October, you would be VERY demanding pressed to discover a remarkable place below $one hundred consistent with night. In Hollywood, i want to propose the Renaissance lodge at Hollywood and Highland, the main suitable Western sundown Plaza, or the holiday lodge walk of attractiveness. different innovations comprise the Beverly Garland, Hollywood action picture star, and Farmer's Daughter lodge. In Santa Monica, the holiday lodge Santa Monica is close to to the pier and particularly priced. In Anaheim, i want to propose the Howard Johnson (HoJo) Anaheim, and the candy Cane lodge.
