This disease causes loss of appetite and weakness. If you can get her to eat several small meals a day, instead of forcing her to drink shakes and eat 3 regular meals it will be more successful. When a patient doesn't have an appetite, a large serving of ANYTHING is just overwhelming. How about a couple of crackers with peanut butter or cheese product? You can get protein drinks that taste like fruit punch; serve it to her in a small, glass as you would a child's portion. Give her a few small pieces of fresh fruit. Ask her what she wants to eat. I would just about give her anything she wanted if she would take a few bites here and there. Either way, vary her diet and make it appealing. Little bites here and there can amount to a full days calorie intake if you're patient. Tell her how proud you are of her when she does eat something nutritious. God Bless.

You should ask the doctor, and he or she might say that your mother-in-law should be drinking Ensure (which has all the vitamins and minerals she needs).

Try to get her to drink those healty drinks for older people, like Boost, or Ensure. That may be eaiser for her to drink something if she is that weak.
