Why my Windows takes forever to load up?

Question

I have an IBM Thinkpad Laptop PIII with windows 2000 and everytime I turn on the pc it takes around 8-10mins to come up, what going on?

proberly to many programs running in the background, eg if u have more than 10 icons near the clock on the right hand corner.
u need to remove some of them from the startup options.
also do a scandisk, defrag, diskcleanup etc..
uninstall some programs u dont use etc
